Basil H. Workman
Clear Creek - Basil H. Workman, 77, died of natural causes Friday, June 17, in a Beckley hospital after a short illness. Born Aug. 17, 1910, at Workman's Creek, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Ollie Cantley Workman. Mr. Workman was a retired attendants director for the Raliegh County School System, a U.S. Army WWII veteran, and a member of the Workman's Creek United Methodist Church where he was a trustee, the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the Adult Bible Class, and his CB Radio handle was the "BIG B".
He was preceded in death by five brothers; Joe, Herman, Ramie, Clinton,
and Orville Workman, and two sisters, Ettle Marquis and Delcie Workman.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Atha Workman; a son, Lawrence Huffman
Workman of Kingsport, Tenn.; three daughters Dorothy Williams and Jane
Stover, both of Beckley, and Sharon Huffman of King George, Va.; a brother
Sherman Workman of Beckley, three sisters, Delphia Taylor of Glen White,
Carrie Long of High Point, N.C., and Gracie Wriston of Workman's Creek;
a stepmother, Edith Workman of Ameagle; three step brothers, Kelcie Matnard
of Ohio, Lynn Maynard of Artie, and Gary Maynard of Leevale; four step-sisters,
Jean Duncan of Dorothy, Ramona Smith of Ohio, Illittia Bailey of Pax and
Charlotte of Ohio; nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services wll be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Workman's Creek United Methodist
Church with the Revs. Lionel Harold and Cecil McClellan officiating. Burial
will be in the Blu Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
Friends may call today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home
at Prosperity, and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The Sophia VFW Post 4326 will conduct graveside services.
