General Notes: Capt. Joseph Boynton married 13 May 1669 Sarah daughter of Richard Swan. She died in Groton, 27 Feb 1718-19. He married second in Rowley 11 Mar 1719-20, Elizabeth Wood. He was Captain in Col. Francis Wainwright's First Regiment-Red-in service 1706 and 1707, Port Royal Expedition; town clerk, and representative many years. He and wife, Sarah, son Benoni and wife, Ann, were dismissed from Rowley Church to Groton, 4 Dec 1715 (Church Record). He returned to Rowley before 1720, and died 16 Dec 1730, aged 85 years (Grave Stone).

His will, made "under the infirmities of old age" 30 Oct 1719, mentions wife Mary, and a marriage contract; eldest son, Ichabod; daughter Hannah Barnes; son Zachariah; grandchildren, oldest son of Ichabod (unnamed), and Joseph Barnes, son of daughter Hannah (Essex Probate, 313:89).

John married Hannah Keyes on 8 Mar 1675 in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts. Hannah was born on 12 Sep 1654 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts⁴ and died on 1 Apr 1717 in Bradford, Essex, Massachusetts⁴ at age 62.

General Notes: Serg. Caleb Boynton, "Blacksmith" married 26 May 1674, Hannah, daughter of Leonard Harriman. His will, dated 17 May 1706, mentions wife (unnamed), sons Jeremiah and Ebenezer. Daughters Margaret Chaplin and Ruth Boynton Essex Probate, 310: 47. His widow Hannah died 19 Feb 1725/6.

Caleb married Hannah Harriman, daughter of Leonard Harriman and Margaret Palmer, on 26 May 1674 in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts.⁴ Hannah was born on 22 May 1655 in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts¹² and died on 19 Feb 1726 in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts⁴ at age 70.

In 1717, he sold his homestead to Samuel Todd (Essex Deeds, 38: 75), and was dismissed, 19 Nov 1719, from Rowley Church to the church in Groton (Church Record).

By deed dated 7 Jan 1673, his father conveys to him that land "I bought of Mr. John Clarke, that is lyeing and being in the Towneship of Newbury, in the neck of land sometimes called Steere Common, as it lyeth bounded, on the westerly end by land of Mr. Henry Sewalls, the southerly syde bounded by land of Mr. Richard Dumers from the South corner tree, that parts it and Mr. Sewalls land and Mr. Dummers, runing on a streight line easterly to a bound at the head of a creeke, and then that creeke being the bounds of it, vnto the river, on all parts elce bounded by the River". (Essex Deeds, 3 Ips.: 342).
On the farm he lived more than fifty years. He was of Rowley, 1725, of Bradford, 1729, and of Haverhill, 1733. In a deed to his son William, dated 10 Feb 1729, he says he was he was a soldier under Major Appleton in the "warrs at Narragansett" (Essex Deeds, 92: 275). His will dated 20 Dec 1729, proved 12 Nov. 1736, mentions all the children as given below (Essex Probate, 320:315).

His home was in Ipswich, near the Rowley line, and he is styled "Ipswich Caleb Boynton" on Rowley Church Record. He joined Rowley Church, 2 Jul. 1676, and died about 1695-6. He disposed of his real estate, by deeds to various persons, a few years before his death (Essex Deeds, 10: 85 and 11: 3).
