PECOS COUNTY SHERIFF'S TENURE OF OFFICE

 

APRIL 12, 1875 - SPECIAL TERM

        Andrew Loomis - Sheriff, served until June 4, 1875. At which time he resigned and Joseph Heid was elected Sheriff by court.

 

1876 COMMISSIONER'S PRECINCTS FORMED

         James Johnson - Sheriff served until Joseph Head was elected Sheriff.

 

GENERAL ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 5, 1878

         Joseph Head  elected Sheriff. Harry Ryan appointed  Sheriff by Commissioner's Court and sworn and bonded April 10, 1879

 

GENERAL ELECTION NOVEMBER 20, 1880

         John Edgar was elected sheriff from 1880 through the terms of 1882, 1884, 1886, and 1888. He was elected Sheriff in the General Election of November 10, 1890 but failed to make bond in the required length of time; his bondsmen served notice that they wished to be released from bonding John Edgar. The office declared a vacantcy on December 2, 1890 and the bondsmen were called on to pay the indebtness. On this same date W.P. Matthews was appointed Sherrif & Tax collector.

 

GENERAL ELECTION OF 1892

        A.J. Royal elected Sheriff and served one term. Soon after he was defeated in November 12, 1894 election, he was assassinated.

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1894   

         R.B. Neighbors elected Sheriff from 1894 through the term of 1896, 1898, 1900 and 1902

 

 

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1904

           D.S. Barker elected Sheriff from 1904 through the term of 1906, 1908, 1910, 1910, 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1920. 1922, and 1924

 

 

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1926

           W.P Rooney elected Sheriff from 1926 through the term of 1928, 1930, 1932 and 1934

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1936

            F.S Wilson elected sheriff from 1936 through the term of 1938. He died in office January 22, 1939. Dan Bihl was appointed to serve out Mr. Wilson's unexpired term.

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1940

              Dan Bihl elected Sheriff

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1942

              R.B. Hilger elected Sheriff 1942 and 1944

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1946

              Charles N. Baker was elected Sheriff 1946, 1948, 1950, and 1952. Mr. Baker died November 5, 1952 and Clarence S. Ten Eych was appointed Sheriff on November 11, 1952.

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1954

 

   Clarence S. Ten Eych elected Sheriff in 1954 for a two year term. The four year term started in 1956

 

 GENERAL ELECTION OF 1956

   Clarence S. Ten Eych elected Sheriff in 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968.1972, and 1976    

GENERAL ELECTION OF  1980

Larry Gibbs took office for one term 1980,1984

Stepped down because of back problems and Bruce Wilson filled in as acting Sheriff.

 

GENERAL ELECTION OF 1984-2000

Bruce Wilson was elected Sheriff and remained until the year 2000

 

GENERAL ELECTION OF 2001

Cliff Harris was elected Sheriff and remains as of this date 2003
