Thursday, June 1 – A beautiful summer day.  Juba at work in garden & hoeing potatoes.  (More too light to read)

 

Friday, June 2 – Very dry & warm.  Worms still doing a great deal of damage to trees.  Juba in shop, part of the time hoeing potatoes.  Clara & Rollin to the Corners to see her mother.

 

Saturday, June 3 – Still cool & dry.  A. M. Juba worked in shop.  P. M. He went over to the pond to fish & please Rollin.  They caught 15 perch.  Juba sent our tub of better to Ver. by Fred Grandey.  11 pounds, 14 cents per pound. Makes 5 tubs to this date.  I have written a letter to Emily in Cal.

 

Sunday, June 4 – Very pleasant & cool day.  A. M. All at home.  P. M. Clara & Rollin to the Corners to see her mother.  John R. Converse, my grandson, is 25 years old today.

 

Monday, June 5 – Cloudy morning, but no rain.  P. M.  Very warm, ther. 94 in our porch, hottest it has been this year.  Juba hoeing potatoes.  Mr. Thorn called here.  Mr. Benedict, groceries, 65 cents.

 

Tuesday, June 6 – Very hot today, ther. over 90 in the shade. Juba to Fred Grandeys, building a barn.  IT has been fearfully hot all day.  Hariet is up helping clean the church.

 

Wednesday, June 7 – Another extremely hot day. Juba is down to Fred Grandeys again today.  Showers seemed to gather all around us, but we were passed by.  A good rain is so very much needed.

 

Thursday, June 8 – Very clear & bright warm morning, wind south.  A. M. Juba to Fred’s.  P. M.  He worked in shop mending wheels for Ward Spalding.  Clara & Rollin up to see her mother. Elder & Mary called on their way from Mrs. Lyman’s.

 

Friday, June 9 – A little cloudy. Hope the Lord will give us a plentiful shower.  Juba to Fred Grandeys.

 

Saturday, June 10 – Very clear & bright day but so very dry, nothing in gardens can grow.  Juba to Fred Grandeys.  Came home at 5 oclock & went to Vergennes with Frank Warner.  Put up a carriage at the depot for Frank Priest.  A letter to Jesse.  Mr. Fish had 7 pounds of butter which makes 1 tub if all together, making 6 tubs this date.

 

Sunday, June 11 – Very dry & hot, yet so signs of rain.  All at home.  James Ten Brocke preached in the Baptist house.

 

Monday, June 12 – Very hot & dry, no signs of rain.  Juba started this morning at three oclock for Vergennes, to take the cow he sold to Mr. Thorn to the Depot.  Herman Merrill helped him.  They returned at 8 oclock.  He then went to Fred’s to work.  Mr. & Mrs. Blanchard called here.

 

Tuesday, June 13 – Still very hot & dry, clear & not a cloud to be seen.  Juba to Fred’s shingling a barn.  Mrs. Carrie Brydia had 2 ˝ pounds of butter.  Clara is not very well.

 

Wednesday, June 14 – Still just as hot & dry as ever.  Juba worked for Mr. Wisell partitioning a room in the shop for Mr. Hoppy (Happy?).  I have been over to Hariet’s & from there to Edric’s.  Read about the awful storm the 12th in Minn. & Wis., over 200 killed.  I rec’d a letter from Minnie tonight, she is counting the days until vacation.

 

Thursday, June 15 – Still very dry & hot.  A. M. Juba putting up screen doors for Mr. Adams.  P. M.  He is working in shop.  Clara seems clear down sick.  I have written & sent Minnie a letter today.  A very little rain fell this afternoon, it soon dried off.

 

Friday, June 16 - A very pleasant day, cool north wind, just as dry as ever.  Juba at home.  Clara is not better, she consented to have the Dr. He came, said she must keep very still.  Juba has gone to Ver. tonight after some medicine.

 

Saturday, June 17 – Still very dry but cooler as there was a nice rain in the north yesterday.  Clara don’t seem to be much if any better.  She is weak & prostrated. Juba went to Ver. with George Allen this morning.  He is at home this afternoon. Dr. Kent & his wife called this afternoon.  He says Clara is better.

 

Sunday, June 18 – Clear, not a cloud to be seen, no signs of rain.  Clara thinks she is no better.  Dr. thinks she is some better.  Mrs. Amos Wetherbee died this morning.

 

Monday, June 19 – Still very hot & dry.  Juba at home.  Clara no better.  Dr. came & his wife with him.  She went up to see Clara but she don’t want to see anyone. Louisa came over & helped me work.

 

Tuesday, June 20 – Still just as hot & dry.  Showers all about us, but none reach here.  Clara continues about the same. Juba has been cutting & putting up some of Louisa’s hay, it is very light & dry.  Dr. did not call today.  Louisa did the ironing.

 

Wednesday, June 21 – Still very dry, rain is so much needed.  I think a good rain would be appreciated, wind north & cool. Juba at home.  Clara is no better.  Dr. came this morning, says Clara is no worse.

 

Thursday, June 22 - Still hot & dry, no rain since the 27th of May, then only a short little shower finally, but very little rain since the snow left.  Juba at home.  The Dr. says he thinks Clara is a little better.  He came just at 12 oclock.

 

Friday, June 23 – Still dry as ever & hotter, therm. 102 in the shade at 12 oclock.  Clara says she is no better. Juba about home.  Dr. & wife called.

 

Saturday, June 24 - Still dry & everything in garden looks scorched, therm. 102. Juba about home.  Clara is no better.  Dr. has not been here today.

 

Sunday, June 25 – Still very dry & hot.  Juba & Rollin have been over to the lake.  Clara seems a little more quiet, says she is no better.  Dr. came at night, thinks she is __ as well.

 

Monday, June 26 – Had quite a thunder shower last night, everything looks much refreshed. Juba at home painting.  Clara seems a little better.  Rollin has gone with Miss Wood (the teacher) to the north school.  Dr. did not come today.  I sent a letter to Sadie, paper to Minnie.

 

Tuesday, June 27 – Very nice & cool this morning. Clara says she is just the same.  A. M. Juba at home.  P. M. He went to Fred Grandeys.  Rollin went with Miss Wood to school, after school to Ver. with her.

 

Wednesday, June 28 – A very welcome rain is now falling, hope it will continue all day. It did rain lightly until 5 oclock.  Clara some better.  Juba at home in shop.  Dr. did not come today.

 

Thursday, June 29 – A beautiful day after a nice rain, the sun & wind & drying things very fast. Clara does not seem as well today.  Juba at home.  Dr. came this afternoon.  Elder & Mary came about 1 oclock, left at 4 oclock.  Rollin has been to a picnic with Edith & her sister.

 

Friday, June 30 – A most beautiful June day, cool & comfortable. Juba & Rollin at home.  Clara seems a little better, not able to set up much.  34 years & 11 months today since our dear Rollin was slain in battle before Petersburg, Va.  The thought brings sorrow & sadness to my heart.  Dr. did not come today.
