July 1891


July 1, 1891 – Very pleasant day.  Juba shingling for Burton Kent.

 

July 2, 1891 – Has been a very rainy day.  Juba has went to Burtons, came home in the rain. He worked in the shop the rest of the day.

 

July 3, 1891 – It has cleared away and has been mostly pleasant the rest of the day.  Juba finished at Burtons, worked for Loyal Spalding this afternoon.  Baby Rollin is 19 months old today.

 

July 4, 1891 – Rainy forenoon, afternoon quite pleasant.  Juba at home in forenoon.  P. M. he went to Ver. with Loyal.  Johnnie to ___ fishing with Sprague boys.

 

July 5, 1891 – Rainy day.  Juba carried Clara & baby home to stay a few days.

 

July 6, 1891 – Very pleasant day.  A. M. Juba worked for Lyman Grandey.  P. M. he and George Merrill finished shingling the piazza after supper he & John painted the floor. Evening Jula went to the Corners with Loyal.

 

July 7, 1891 – Several showers during the day.  A. M. Juba at home, did some work for B. Allen.  P. M. He went to Ver. with Clayton Curlen.  Fannie & I home alone.

 

July 8, 1891 – No rain today, dark clouds passed around. Juba did some work for Loyal.  They are both at the blacksmith shop this afternoon, making something for Loyal to take to Butte City with him.  A man took Jubas buggie away.

 

July 9, 1891 – Warm.  Fannie to Ver. to stay a week.  Clara came home.

 

July 10, 1891 – Warm and pleasant.  Juba to Mr. Hills in the forenoon, p.m. to help Loyal & John. Johnnie helping Joseph.

 

July 11, 1891 – Pleasant. Juba to Spalding all day.  John Spalding to Vergennes, brought us a barrel of flour and some grain.

 

July 12, 1891 – Very pleasant.  Juba carried me over to the cemetery, as I wanted to see the work he had done there. Has had an inscription for his father put on the monument.  Also fixed the lot up well.

 

July 13, 1891 – Very warm.  Juba at Mr. Tenbrocks a.m, p.m. at home.  Loyal & John came to help him do his haying.  Johnnie fishing with Aaron Mathews from Rutland.

 

July 14, 1891 – Very hot today.  Juba helping Loyal & John Spalding this a. m., p.m. they all came here and worked & drew in 7 or 8 loads. Johnnie tumbled  up the hay.

 

July 15, 1891 – Very warm & dry, some cloudy.  Juba finished his haying this forenoon & has gone over to help Loyal & John Spalding.  Johnnie worked part of the day for Mr. Hoyt.  Have had a little shower this afternoon.

 

July 16, 1891 – Very pleasant & cool.  Juba to Spaldings all day. Hariet & Cora here this afternoon.  Johnnie worked for Mr. Hoyt all day.

 

July 17, 1891 – Very pleasant and warm again. Juba to  Spaldings all day.  Johnnie working for Joseph all day.

 

July 18, 1891 – Very pleasant till ___ then slight sprinkle of rain, which by 9 oclock increased to a heavy rain.  Juba to Spaldings all day.  Johnnie worked for Joseph.  About 6 oclock they started for Vergennes, returned at 10.

 

July 19, 1891 - It is so very nice after a refreshing rain as we had last night.  It is so muddy Johnnie will not go after his mother.  A beautiful moonlight evening.  They came at 9 oclock.

 

July 20, 1891 - A very pleasant day.  A. M. Juba to Dr. Kents.  P. M. to Spaldings, they finished their haying.  Clara did not go up home yesterday so went up this morning with Juba & came back at noon. Fannie & I have been washing.

 

July 21, 1891 – Very pleasant weather. Juba worked at home on the piazza.  Johnnie worked for Joe.  Fannie & I have been ironing.  Clara, washing.  Heard George Convers died Sunday & was buried today.

 

July 22, 1891 – Still very nice weather.  A. M.  Juba, Clara & baby Rollin to Vergennes. Juba came at noon and left Clara & Rollin at Loyal Rents for a visit.  Johnnie & Joe finished haying.  Fannie has been down to Louisa’s and picked 10 quarts of cherries.

 

July 23, 1891 -  Several showers through the day.  Juba took up the platform at the back door and then he went down to Louisa’s and picked some cherries with Johnnie & Fannie.  They got a pail full of very nice ones and we are canning & drying them. Johnnie fishing.

 

July 24, 1891 – A very pleasant day. Juba put down the platform and painted some of the lattice work around the piazza.  Fannie & I have been putting up cherries.  Had a letter from Minnie saying she and Jenny would be here  Monday.  Johnnie fishing, has some nice ___.

 

July 25, 1891 – Pleasant morning after a hard rain in the night.  Juba & Johnnie painting. P. M. Juba did some work for Charles Hatch.  A hard thunder shower north of us. Sent a tub of butter (11 ½ lbs) to Ver. by Loyal.

 

July 26, 1891 – A beautiful day, all nature looks so bright and green.  Juba has gone to carry Clara & the baby home.  Fannie & I have to stay at home.

 

July 27, 1891 – A beautiful day.  Juba to Ver. after Minnie Spalding.  He expects to meet her & Jenny Pope at the depot.  Jennie rode down with Mr. Stagg and is stopping with them.  It is 38 years since she left here with her father, mother, brothers and sisters.  Two sisters and three brothers.

 

July 28, 1891 – A very pleasant day. Juba working in shop.  Hariet, Jennie & Cora here in the afternoon.

 

July 29, 1891 – Very pleasant day.  Juba mending and painting his wagon.

 

July 30, 1891 – Very pleasant day.  27 years today since our dear son John Rollin was slain in battle of Petersburg, Va., 1864.  Almost 6 years since our dear son Jesse left us for St. Louis, Mo.

 

July 31, 1891 – Very pleasant.  Juba to Mr. Gardners to repair a boat for the Davis boys. Fannie went up to the Doctors and called on Louisa and Cornelia Kent and Lily Russo.
