June 1891


June 1, 1891 – Pleasant day.  Juba gone to carry Eric to the depot, brought Clara & the baby home.  Fannie & I had our washing all done at 1 oclock.  A severe rain & thunder storm struck a barn on the east road and did some other damage.

 

June 2, 1891 - Pleasant day.  Juba at  home, made posts for the porch.

 

June 3, 1891 – A. M. Pleasant.  P. M. Rainey.  Juba went to the cemetery with friend Adams.  P. M. He & Clara went to Ver., came home in the rain.  Johnnie went down and helped Louisa do her chores.  Baby 18 months old.

 

June 4, 1891 – A very nice pleasant day.  Juba to Ver. with Loyal. Elden Dayfoot called a few ____.  Johnnie hunting, he is 17 years old today.

 

June 5, 1891 – Pleasant day.  Juba to Mr. H. Gardners part of the day.  Night he & Clara went to the Corners.  Fannie & I visited at Mr. Staggs.  Miss Lucy Smith called.  Johnnie a fishing with Charlie.

 

June 6, 1891 – A very pleasant day.  Juba at home, work in the forenoon on Mr. Wissells boat, afternoon on the porch.  Mrs. Parker & Mrs. Booth called to see Fannie.  Juba took Clara & Rollin to her mothers.

 

June 7, 1891 – A beautiful day.  Juba, Johnnie & Fannie gone to road on the lake street.  I have written to Sadie & Mary Dayfoot.  Juba after Clara & the baby.

 

June 8, 1891 -  A pleasant day, all washing finished before noon.  Juba to Ver. with Charlies Stagg.

 

June 9, 1891 – A beautiful day.  Johnnie & his mother have gone to Vergennes.  Juba at home.

 

June 10, 1891 – A pleasant day.  Juba & Johnnie went a fishing, very nearly caught enough for dinner.  A. M.  Juba met the selectman at Vergennes.  Clara & baby went to her mothers.  Louisa here.

 

June 11, 1891 – A. M.,Very nice & pleasant.  P. M., a ___ shower.  Fannie & I went over to Mrs. Curlens and had a muddy time getting home.  Juba at home working on the porch.

 

June 12, 1891 – Warm & pleasant.  Juba & Johnnie hoeing potatoes.

 

June 13, 1891 – A beautiful day.  Juba fixing a cupboard for Mr. Loyal Kent.  Johnnie mending his boat.  Fred Thompson came to see Fannie & Johnnie.  Clara gone home.

 

June 14, 1891 – A beautiful day. It was once my delight to attend church, but now I have to be content to read at home.  Have some good sermons to read that I enjoy.

 

June 15, 1891 – A very warm day, the warmest of the season yet.  Juba has been after Clara.  Rollin Kent came and cultivated the potatoes & corn & Juba changed works with him.  Fannie & Clara have gone to take Fred to the cars.  John fishing, Juba hoeing.

 

June 16, 1891 – A very warm day, then 91 in the shade. Juba working on the ____

June 17, 1891 – Had a fine shower last night.  Juba & Clara gone on a fine excursion to Reeseville, Ny.  Left Rollin with Fannie.  Mary Dayfoot came from West Haven to make a short visit.

 

June 18, 1891 – Light showers during the day.  Juba at home.  Fannie, Mary & I went down to Mrs. Lyman’s.  Louisa came in the evening to see Mary, staid all night. Johnnie fishing with Hiram Spragues boys.  Caught some nice fish.

 

June 19, 1891 – Very cloudy and looks likely to rain.  Juba at home.  Clara carried Mary Dayfoot to Ira Brydios (?)  Johnnie to the lake,  caught some nice fish.

 

June 20, 1891 – Pleasant day. Juba home in the forenoon.  Afternoon to Ver. with Loyal. Bought a 25 lb can of maple sugar.  Johnnie to the lake.  Picked some strawberries, had a shortcake.

 

June 21, 1891 – Very pleasant in the forenoon, afternoon rain.  Juba took Clara & baby up home.

 

June 22, 1891 – Raining this morning.  Juba had the horses shod, went to Fred Grandey till noon.  Afternoon to Mr. Carpenters.  Clara washing.  Fannie caring baby.  Johnnie to the lake.  Fannie sent a letter to Sadie & I to Minnie.

 

June 23, 1891 – Clouds are disappearing and it bids fair to be a pleasant day, wind south.  Johnnie & Fannie have gone with the excursionists to Providence Island.  Juba to Mr. Carpenters this morning & then to Mr. Staggs.  Tomorrow Sister Conant will be 85 years old.

 

June 24, 1891 – A splendid day, cool north wind.  Juba to Mr. Staggs, forenoon, afternoon hoed potatoes.  Johnnie & George Merrill helping him, finished them at 6 oclock.  Mrs. Andrew Rusco called to see Fannie.  Fannie & I returned with her to Mr. Curlens to see Mrs. Ada Holcomb f rom Rutland.

 

June 25, 1891 – Beautiful weather. Juba traded buggies with Mr. Wm. Conant this morning.  Worked for George Merrill in the a. m.  In p.m. George worked for him shingling.  Fannie & I went down to Louisa to help pick some cherries to send to Kate by Mary Curlen as she is going there today.

 

June 26, 1891 – Very pleasant, north wind.  Juba to George Allen’s working a  piazza. Hariet & Mrs. Gregory here, also Dr. Towsley & wife.  Yesterday Clara drove the pony to Vergennes alone.

 

June 27, 1891 – Cool north wind, but very pleasant.  Juba at work in the cemetery by the lake. Has moved his brothers monument to the centre of the lot in which his father is buried.  At night he went to Vergennes with Loyal. Fannie & I to Ver. with Mrs. Sprague.

 

June 28, 1891 -  Very pleasant & cool.  Juba carried Clara & Rollin up home this morning.  All the rest at home.  John Spalding here to supper.  Fannie had a letter from Sadie last night.  She is well & hard at her work:  stenography.

 

June 29, 1891 – Very pleasant.  Juba shingling for Mr. Tenbrock.  Johnnie fishing. Fannie & I finished our washing about 9 oclock.

 

June 30, 1891 – Very nice day.  Juba to Mr. Tenbrocks.  26 years & 10 months since our dear Rollin was slain in battle at Petersburg, Va.
