April 1891


Apr. 1, 1891 – A very pleasant day, wind south.  Juba to Wm. Hills, painting blinds.  I have been down to Mrs. Lyman’s and Wm. Adams. Their baby is very feeble yet.

 

Apr. 2, 1891 – Very pleasant day.  Juba gone down in Addison.  Mrs. Harley Gardner & two children here. Very pretty little girls.

 

Apr. 3, 1891 – This morning the ground was covered with snow.  Juba went to Wm. Hills in a wagon.  The storm has increased every moment.  Tonight there is over a foot of snow on the ground.  Seems like winter again.

 

Apr. 4, 1891 – Pleasant day after such a snow storm we had yesterday. Juba to Ver. with Joseph.  Bought 20 lbs. sugar for $1.  Got baby a pair of ribbons.  People go in sleigh again.

 

Apr. 5, 1891 – A beautiful day again, warming and thawing the snow fast.  All at home till afternoon.  Juba & Clara went to the Corners.  Rollin staid with me.

 

Apr. 6, 1891 – A very nice day, wind north.  Clara & I did the washing. Juba in shop.

 

Apr. 7, 1891 – Very pleasant, wind north.  Very nice weather to make maple sugar.

 

Apr. 8, 1891 – A beautiful day.  Juba gone to H. Gaines making a barn.  Clara been down to Fred Grandeys to eat maple sugar.

 

Apr. 9, 1891 – Beautiful day, clear and thawing with north wind. Juba to H. Gaines.

 

Apr. 10, 1891 – The wind south, quite cloudy, looks likely to storm.  Juba to Mr. Gaines. Clara & baby went to her mothers with him.

 

Apr. 11, 1891 – no entries

 

Apr. 12, 1891 – Pleasant day, roads very muddy.

 

Apr. 13, 1891 – Juba to Mr. Gaines.  A very pleasant day.

 

Apr. 14, 1891 – A cold north wind.  Juba to Mr. Gaines.

 

Apr. 15, 1891 – A rainy day.  Juba at  home.  Juba carried Clara & the baby to her mothers towards night.

 

Apr. 16, 1891 – A pleasant day after a shower in the morning.  Juba did not go to Mr. Gaines on account of the rain. ___put the ceiling on the back room.

 

Apr. 17, 1891 – A nice day.  Juba to Ver. with Charlie. ____rode home to the Corners with (Burt woods?) and went to Mr. Gaines to work.  He expected to find his wagon at the depot but did not.

 

Apr. 18, 1891 – Several light showers during the day.  Juba took down the door yard fence, put on the chimney top for Mr. Stagg.  ___ our clothes ___ afternoon.  He & Charlie went to Ver. after his two wagons, from Watertown, brought them all ___ 8 ___.

 

Apr. 19, 1891 – A nice spring day.  Grass is growing finaly. Fred Grandey & wife very sick. Juba gone after Clara & baby.

 

Apr. 20, 1891 – Clear and spring like, wind north.  Juba to Mr. Gaines.  Clara & I have been washing.  Baby Rollin not feeling very well.

 

Apr. 21, 1891 – North wind, but very clear and pleasant all day.  Juba to Mr. Gaines yet.

I went down as far as Louisa’s this afternoon.  Called to Mr. Staggs and Mrs. Curlen.

 

Apr. 22, 1891 – Strong south wind, warm & pleasant. Juba to Mr. Gaines yet.  Juba finished to Mr. Gaines tonight.  I have been up to Charlie Spaldings quilting.

 

Apr. 23, 1891 – A few light April showers during the day, a fine growing time. Juba to Silas Hoyt’s building barns.

 

Apr. 24, 1891 – A frost last night, some cloudy today, a north wind.  Juba to Mr. Hoyts.  Clara & I cleaned the two pantries today. Rec’d a letter from Sadie says her mother & Johnnie are coming to Vermont in May.

 

Apr. 25, 1891 – The green grass is being covered with snow this morning. Juba at home all day.  Snow all gone at night.

 

Apr. 26, 1891 – Cold north wind all day, clouds disappeared.  Louisa came up to eat dinner with us, for a wonder (?). Juba carried Clara & the baby up to her mothers to stay a few days.

 

Apr. 27, 1891 – Pleasant and quite warm.  Juba to Mr. Hoyts.  I have had quite…(didn’t finish).

 

Apr. 28, 1891 – Cold north wind. Juba to Mr. Hoyts. He sent after a new pump to Ver.  by Mr. Staggs.  Mrs. Gregory from Stockholm came home with them.

 

Apr. 29, 1891 – Cold morning with a flurry of snow on the ground, it soon disappeared.  Juba to Mr. Hoyt’s.  He finished there tonight for the present.

 

Apr. 30, 1891 – A very nice day.  26 years & 9 months since dear Rollin’s death.  Juba at  home, made picket fence south of house. Louisa & I called to Mr. Stagg’s to see Mrs. Margaret Gregory.  Calf came this afternoon. Towards evening I went to Juba to Loyal Rents.
