March 1891


Mar. 1, 1891 – A very pleasant clear day.  All at home. Dr. Rent and Rollin Rent called here.  Juba & Clara to the Corners, a short time the baby slept while they were gone.

 

Mar. 2, 1891 – A very cold day, bright and clear.  Juba rode to Ver. with ___Curlen, returned at noon. Clara & I have been washing.

 

Mar. 3, 1891 – Another pleasant day, not as cold as yesterday.  Juba gone to town meeting at the Corner. Baby Rollin is 15 months old today, talks quite plain, is full of fun.  Mrs. Lyman came to make a visit.

 

Mar. 4, 1891 – Stormed all day.  Juba to Vergennes.  Mrs. Lyman could not go home, so we were glad to have her stay.

 

Mar. 5, 1891 – Very pleasant day. Juba had Joseph draw some lumber from the ice house.  Mrs. Lyman went home this afternoon, had a pleasant visit with her.

 

Mar. 6, 1891 – A very nice day.  Juba gone to the court at Chimney Point. Brother George & Jesse called a moment on their way to the court. I’ve drew a ____  ____.

David & Miss Esther Ringman here visiting.  Juba gone to Port Henry with the ice plant.  Charlie & Wm. Curlen gone to carry it.

 

Mar. 7, 1891 – Beautiful bright day.  I am here alone.  Juba has gone to Ver.  Clara & baby have gone to her mothers. Joe & wife have gone to Mineville.  I have a cold at present so dare not go out. The weather is much warmer tonight, wind south.

 

Mar. 8, 1891 – Another beautiful bright day. Juba & Clara to the Corners, baby with them. Weather growing warmer.

 

Mar. 9, 1891 – Very cloudy and looks likely to rain.  Juba gone to the ice house with Mr. Hoyt.  It began to rain at 10 and he came home.

 

Mar. 10, 1891 – The clouds of mostly disappeared and it has been a pleasant day.  Juba has gone to Rutland.

 

Mar. 11, 1891 – Cool south wind. Juba returned from Rutland this morning, walked from Vergennes.  Has gone to the lake to witness the horse trot.  Mr. F. Garton, Mr. Hopkins Gaines, horses.

 

Mar. 12, 1891 – Cloudy & warmer than yesterday. Look likely to rain.  Juba at home.  I have been over to Josiah’s to see her baby boy.  Afternoon Juba & Joe shoveled the road over west.

 

Mar. 13, 1891 – Very cloudy & warm, snow nearly all gone excepting the banks.  Foggy this morning. Juba & Joe have been at work on the south bridge over dead creek.  Tonight it is raining hard.

 

Mar. 14, 1891 – The wind came from the north last night soon after dark and the clouds are scarce this morning.  It has been a very nice cool day.  Juba has been to Vergennes with Fred Grandey.  Little Rollin sick, could be cutting teeth & worms.

 

Mar. 15, 1891 – A very pleasant day, some warmer than yesterday. Rollin feeling read bad. Juba gone after the mail.

 

Mar. 16, 1891 – Cloudy and frequent snow squalls.  Clara was sick last night and is not much better today.  Rollin is very uneasy & worries most of the time.  Juba at work in shop.

 

Mar. 17, 1891 – Very cold north wind. Juba gone to Fred Grandey’s to help saw wood, with Charlie Stagg.

 

Mar. 18, 1891 – Cold & squally. Juba gone to Mr. Dudley’s with Andrew.  Mr. Kent called.  Had quite a lot of snow this afternoon.

 

Mar. 19, 1891 – Cold north wind. Juba to Ver. with Joe.  Baby is better.  Sadie is 21 years old today.

 

Mar. 20, 1891 – Morning cold, before night, warm & thawing.  Juba working in shop.

 

Mar. 21, 1891 – Thawing fast, sleighing all gone, wind south.  Juba at home.  I am 73 years old today.  Juba bought some new lamp burners of Mr. Dunbar.  He is going to stay over Sunday.

 

Mar. 22, 1891 – A very pleasant day, warm as April, mud is plenty.

 

Mar. 23, 1891 – Warm south wind, snow going fast.  Juba at work in shop.  We did not wash, neither of us felt able to.  Juba says don’t try & will get someone tomorrow.

 

Mar. 24, 1891 – Very cloudy & warm, began to rain before noon, foggy.  Mrs. Curlen here washing.  Juba working in shop.  Found sawing his wood pile.

 

Mar. 25, 1891 – A very pleasant clear day, wind north, froze last night some.  Juba in shop.  Friend here all day.  Snow all gone except a few banks in the crossroads. Sent a letter to Minnie.

 

Mar. 26, 1891 – A very pleasant day, cool north wind.  Juba & Joe drew wood, a.m.

P.m. worked in the shop for Mr. F. Johnson.  Juba over to Josiah after milk for Rollin.

 

Mar. 27, 1891 – Very pleasant day, cool north wind.  Juba to Vergennes & to Mr. Fields with Mr. Hoyt to divide public money.

 

Mar. 28, 1891 – Very pleasant but cool north wind.  Juba carried Clara & baby to the Corners this morning.  Went after them at night.  Louisa here this afternoon.

 

Mar. 29, 1891 – Another beauty day.  All at home. It will be 26 years and ? months since our dear  Rollin was killed in the battle at Petersburg, Va.

 

Mar. 30, 1891 – Very clear and nice weather, wind north yet.  Juba cutting up his wood pile, George Merrill helping him.  Clara & I are washing. Baby feels well and happy.  Mrs. Rogers little boy nearly broke his arm.

 

Mar. 31, 1891 – Very pleasant nearly all day, toward night it became cloudy & bids fair to rain before morning.  Juba to Mr. Hills putting up blinds.  Clara & baby went with him to her mothers.  I sent letters to Minnie & Sadie.
