     He held the position of selectman in Sandwich, MA between 1712 and 1724. He held the position of a committe "to supply the pulpit" in 1722. On 13-Apr-1732 He did not agree with the doctrine preached andwas one of the contractors who built a new metting house for the opponents of the established minister.
He resided at at Lebanon, New London County, Connecticut, in 1736.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN
I hereunder written John Dury of the Township of Hakingsak in ye county of Bergen and province of East New Jersey being indisposed of body though of perfect memorie and understanding do make this my Last Will and Testament: that is after bequeathing my Imortal soul unto ye hands of Almigh ty god, and threw the suffering of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ hope to have pardon for all my sins I desire after my departing this life that my body be buried in christian burying place at the descretion of my Executrix, and my temporal Estate to be disposed of as followeth (Viz) That my four children (that is to say my daughter Janeken Dury, my son Pieter Dury, my other daughter Marragret Dury and my youngest son John Dury)s hall after and immediately after that my daughter Janeken shall come to the age of twenty and one years, or if God should please to call her out of this world before that time, that then when any of the other three shall come to the above said years of twenty and one, all and every part and parcell of my real Estate shall be exposed to sale amongst my said children and if so be none of them shall see cause to purchase the same that then any one that will may have liberty to purchase the same although strangers, and the value to be equally distributed amongst them my said children after my decease are and shall remain under ye Gardianship of my well beloved friends Andriss Tebou and Samuell Demarest until they be of age in law to receive their patrimoney. It is my further desier that from the time of my decease until such time that one of my said children shall come to the age above said, my well beloved and dear wife Rachell Dury shall hold posses and enjoy my said estate, and every part and parcell thereof and keep all the benefits that shall or may arise therefrom, she the said Rachel sing such means as shall be suitable for the bringing up and educating my said children, and it is my will that my said wife shall have all and singular my moveable estate to disposs of the same at her own good will and pleasure without any let or hindrance of my said children, she my said wife paying my just debts (except such legacies as shall hereaafter follow, that is to say, my said daughter Janeken to have her own mothers clothing, to witt, one Red, one blue and one black gown, as also one black apron with another gown, one gold ring and a silver bodkin, with one siver ear royer, And to my son Pieter I doe give and bequeath one gold stone ring, one silver ear royer and one pydmare. I also doe give and bequeath unto my four children above named all my books, to each as I have already set their names on said books. This I do acknowledge to be my Last Will and Testaments by me heretofore made whatsoever.
