Mary Sears

F, b. 1610, d. 1687

Relationship=9th great-grandmother of David Kipp Conover Jr.
Relationship=8th great-grandmother of Virginia Ailene Swift.
Mary Sears was born in 1610. Mary married Peter Worden. Mary Sears died in 1687.
Mary's left a will on 9-Jan-1679. She wrote a codicil on 24-Jul-1680. Helen Dunton Gilchrest calls her, withut justification, "Mary Sears Worden," and states she "was probably related to Richard Sears, the Pilgrim, but she is not listed as one of his children. She may have been his sister. The Worden property adjoined that of Richard Sears. Mary's will was witnessed by two of Richard's sons. The inventory was taken by another of his sons." Others believe that she was a Winslow; several references state (without citing the basis for the claim) that her daughter, Mercy, and her husband Kenelm Winslow were cousins. If Kenelm and Mercy were first cousins, Mary would have to be a daughter of Edward Winslow. A few printed references say that Mary's middle name was Magdalene; if so this supports the Winslow theory for the second wife of Edward Winslow was Magdalene Oliver.

Deborah Barrows was born before 1670; she would have been over 18 by the time of her marriage in 1687. She was the daughter of John Barrows and Deborah (Unknown). Deborah married Nathaniel Fish, son of Nathaniel Fish and (Unknown) (Unknown), on 20-Dec-1687 at Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.
[PVR:] 'Nathn ffish Was Married to Deborah Barrows the 20th of december 1687' The marriage of Nathaniel (2) Fish to Deborah Barrow is recorded in Plymouth MA, taking place on 20 December 1687. His wife's name does not appear in Sandwich records, but the Plymouth church records state 'Deborah Fish (who was Barrow) living now at Sandwich was July 15 (1688) declared guilty of fornication with her now husband before marriage.' There are no other Fish families in Sandwich that fit this scenario, so Deborah is tentatively assigned as Nathaniel's wife. Plymouth Church Records, Vol. I and II, 1620-1859 [15] 1688: Deborah Fish (who was Barrow) living now at Sandwich, was July, 15: declared guilty of Fornication with her now husband before marriage, & a letter read before the church to be sent to her from the Elders in their name to admonish her for her sin, the church consented thereunto. Anno 1689: July, 3: the church met after Lecture at the Pastors house, & after Prayer ... before she came, the Pastor read a letter from Deborah Fish (whom the church [h]ad sent letters of Admonition unto the last yeare for her fornication) wherein she manifested her Repentance for her sin etc.
