      Garrett Conover was born on 3-Feb-1817 at Hightstown, Mercer County, New Jersey. He was the son of John P. Conover and Lydia Duncan. Garrett Conover was baptized on 10-May-1817 at First Presbyterian Church, Cranbury, Middlesex County, New Jersey. Garrett married Ann Louisa Wetsel in 1838.
      At the age of 12 he came to New Brunswick and was apprenticed to learn the tailor's trade with William Owen, and at that youthful age started out in life for himself, and since this beginning in 1829 he has been continuously identified with the clothing trade in New Brunswick. in 1829.

He finished learning his rade with John Stryker, who left the place in 1835 in 1835.

Garrett Conover resided at at Albany Street, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey, in 1845. He he was elected Mayor of New Brunswick on the Democratic ticket and served between 1874 and 1875 Garrett Conover at New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. He he was a member of the Saint James Methodist Episcopal Chruch in New Brunswick and president of its Board of Trustees at St. James Methodist Episcopal Church, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey, 1882.
