On his mail delivery rounds, John Hervy Demaree heard that one on the Allen brothers needed a cook-housekeeper on his dairy. John told his daughter (Bertha Allen) about the job and she applied. Bertha and George Thomas Allen were later married. The Allen clan looked down on George Thomas and Bertha because she had been married before and then divorced. The brothers' wives and Bertha did not get along , so George sold his share of the dairy to his brothers. George and Bertha then settled in Snelling, California where the Allen Family home still stands.
