Josephine R. Hastings
Josephine R. "Rosie" Hastings, 75, a longtime Parsons resident, died late Thursday night, April 21, 2005, at her residence. She had been in failing health but her death was unexpected.
She was born on June 4, 1929, at rural Cherryvale to Andrew Paul and Bessie L. (McCollum) Adamson. She grew up on the family farm near Cherryvale and moved to Parsons as a teenager. She graduated from Parsons High School.
She and Marshall E. Hastings Sr. were united in marriage on Sept. 11, 1948, at the Christian Church in Cherryvale. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1994. She worked at Hallmark Cards for a short time and for many years was a licensed day care provider at her home in Parsons.
She was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church in Parsons, where she was the church nursery sitter for many years and a member of the Amoma Sunday school class. She also participated in the American Baptist Women's Ministry. She was a Boy and Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed scrapbooking, working in her yard, helping others (especially children) and spending time with her family. She was affectionately known as "Grandma Rosie" to her day care children.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Hastings and his companion, Judy Strait, of Parsons, Darrell Hastings and his wife, Carolyn, of St. Paul and Leslie Hastings of Wichita; two daughters, Marsha Hearson and her husband, Earl, and Sandy Gum, all of Parsons; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rowena Cochran of Kansas City, Mo., and Lucille Christmore of Coffeyville.
She was preceded in death by a son, Marshall Hastings Jr; a brother, Eddie Adamson; and a sister, Mary Adams.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Parsons with the Rev. Wayne Mason officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
