A farm tractor accident Saturday morning raised the death count on Adair County highways to three for the year. Pronounced dead at the scene was Joe W. Conover of Sano Route. According to State Trooper Mike Sapp, who investigated the accident, Conover was travelling north on Highway 531 with a 1960 Ford farm tractor and wagon. Conover was descending the hill in front of Pleasant View Baptist Church when his tractor went out of control and he was unable to make the turn at the bottom of the hill. The tractor and wagon went over an embankment at the curve, throwing Conover from the tractor in the process. The tractor and wagon came to a halt at the branch with Mr. Conover landing approximately 20 feet away. "There were no signs of life when we arrived," stated Brad Conover of the local EMS. Conover suffered severe lacerations to the head and body as well as recieving some type of blunt trauma to the chest. Conover's death was apparently due to injuries sustained in the accident. The local EMS transported the body of Mr. Conover to Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. Mr. Conover was 76 years old at the time of his death. Responding to the accident were EMT's Brad Conover and Dennis Loy. Also at the scene were Rescue Squad members Gene Hoots and Tommy Corbin. Trooper Mike Sapp investigated the accident.
