     Hannah Worthington was born on 26. May. 1914 at Sonestown, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of James Clayton Worthington and Jessie Eloise Bennett. In the census in 1920 Hannah Worthington was named Anna E. Worthington. She married Jack Leslie Hewes on 27. Jan. 1933 at Maryland. Hannah Worthington died on 18. Feb. 2007 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, at age 92.

Hannah W. "Nance" Hewes, 92, a resient of the Personal Care Home of Memorial Hospital of Towanda, formerly a long-time resident of Liberty Corners, RR 4, Towanda, Pa., passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 18, 2007, at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa.

Born May 26, 1914, Sonestown, Pa., she was a daughter of the late James Clayton Worthington and Jessie Eloise Bennett Worthington.

Hannah attended Sonestown High School and assisted in the operation of her family's farm in early years.

On Jan. 27, 1933, she married Jack Leslie Hewes in Maryland. Hannah and Jack resided in Eagles Mere, Pa., and later moved to Towanda in 1936, when Jack became employed by Penelec.

Mr. and Mrs. Hewes later moved to Toronto, Canada, where they resided for eight years following Jack's acceptance of employment with Ontario Hydro Electric. Mr. and Mrs. Hewes subsequently returned to the area to purchase the former John Ennis farm in Liberty Corners, which they operated for many years.

Hannah was a member of the first United Methodist Church, Towanda, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are: her children, Betty Hewes Grebey of Chester Springs, Pa., Harriet Hewes Vargason and Ernest Vargason of Liberty Corners, and Clayton Leslie Hewes and his wife, Constance Hewes, of Canton, N.Y; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Hewes of Georgia; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Laverna Miller of Williamsport, Pa., Ethel Bennett of the Personal Care Home of Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Floye Walker of Stockton, Calif., Beatrice Young Pitty of Deland, Fla; her sister-in-law, Betty Worthington of Monroeton, Pa; a son-in-law, Richard Bowman of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Jack, who died on Feb. 3, 1976 and parents, she was preceded in death by: a daughter, Audrey Bowman; a son, Kermit James Hewes; two sisters, Ruth Dean and Elizabeth Hammer; and two brothers, Guy Ernest Worthington and Earl Foster Worthington.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the First United Methodist Church, Main Street, Towanda, with the Rev. Richard Barner; pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, Towanda.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Main Street, Towanda, PA 18848, in Hannah's memory.
