Snowed all nite.Stayed at Harrington's auto court. Jr. sick at his stomach. Car andhigh altitude, I guess. One flat at Amarillo, we are sure tired. Thetrip is telling on both the kids. Snow is about 4 in. deep. Got hereat 7 PM , Gallup, NM. February 26, 1937 Leaving Gallup, NM at 5:25 AM. Fri. Some of the most beautifulscenery I have ever seen was on this route. When we left Gallup, itwas snowing, so we could hardly see the road then it cleared and as weneared Flagstaff, it would be snow and sunshine. Beautiful mountainsand lovely trees. Also our first real mountain crossing - At Needlesthis Eve. February 27, 1937 Left Needles about 7 AM and made it to Bakersfield. One of the mostbeautiful mountain crossing I have ever seen. Squirrels run in frontof the car everywhere. They are fat and lazy. Something is wrong withthe car somewhere a clicking noise in one of the wheels. Stayed about25 miles on the other side of Bakersfield. All stayed in the somecabin. Jr. fell over the stove and mashed it flat.
