Dear Companion,
I take my pen in hand to let you know that I am in the land of the living. I am well at this time. I have been very sick. I was taken on the 17. I had the chills very bad. We are six miles north of Holy Springs. We are in the 15 miles of the Northern Army. We are in the 30 miles on Corenth, 30 miles of Nashville. We hear no talk of peace, all partyes are very tired. Our boys say they don't want to fight them any more.
We have seen a heap of the Old Texas boys. I saw Tom Parsons and Fletcher Boven. Tom was shot in the shoulder. The ball hit him in the top fof the shoulder and went between his ribs blade. He is getting well.
We have tolerable good health in camps. B.B. stand the trip fine. He is fatter than he has been in six years. We have not been armed yet, only sabers. They are about 3 ft. long. You never heard such rattling in your life when we are marching. The weather is tolerable cold. We had a fine snow on the 25th. It fell one day and layed until next day about 12 inches. It was the first snow I ever saw before frost. I got my overcoat the neighbor at old man Jim Gregory got it from Watts through a mistake. I will close by asking you and all friends to pray for me. Tell the childrento be good children. Kiss them for me and except a sweet one for yourself. My the lord bless you is my desire.
Write soon. I never have got but one letter from you.
