Abram was founder of Maybee, Monroe, Michigan Maybee, Michigan History The exact date is not known, but at least by 1850, the village of Maybee was a settlement in the township of Exeter. At that time, the Maybee settlement as it was called had one saw mill and one general store. Maybee was named after a gentlemen known as Abram Maybee. He was born in Medina, Ohio on June 6, 1835. His parents were Solomom Maybee and Charlotte (Doolittle) Maybee. According to documentation the young boy known as Abram, came to Michigan with his parents either in 1842 or 1852, written documents have not agreed on the exact date. Abram received 60 acres of his father's land 'situated in Exeter' willed to him from his father. His father 'Solomom died March 26, 1860'. This land was later platted for the village of Maybee. At the age of 30, Abram Maybee married Mary C. Moses on December 29, 1864. There were four children born to them. Three girls and a son. They also adopted another son. At the age of thirty-nine years Abram Maybee and Joseph Klotz decided in 1873 to have the lands that they owned surveyed for a village. The Canada Southern Railway at this time was also being built through Maybee. Abram and Joseph soon dealt in the business of selling village lots. They also owned a saw mill together according to the 1876 Atlas of Monroe County. On January 6th and 7th, 1873, Delos F Wilcox surveyed the lands belonging to these two men. The land platted is part of Private Claims 352,495 and 274. After this was done, Abram Maybee and Joseph Kloz, both dealt in the business of selling village lots. According to the 1876 Atlas of Monroe County, Abram and Joseph also owned a sawmill together. According to the death notice of Abram, it was read that he built all of the first houses and a hotel. In 1890 Abram Maybee retired, he was 56 years old. On Wednesday the 18th of May 1892 he died. There were four children born to Abram and his wife. Adella, Elizabeth, George and Marilla. Abram Maybee and his wife also raised an adopted son named Seward. C 1850.

Maybee, Michigan is located in Exeter Township in northern Monroe County, about 12 miles northwest of Monroe. It is primarily a small agricultural town, about a square mile in size. Maybee was named after Abram Maybee. He built a grist and saw mill here in the early 1870's. The area grew because of the large amount of timber found in the area, which developers saw as potential for making into charcoal. Several kilns were built originally, with the town eventually springing up around them. In 1873, the Canadian Southern Railroad came through here and built a station, which helped stabilize the surrounding economy. It was eventually incorporated as a village in 1899.

He was the son of Joseph Mabie and Catharina Schuyler. David Maybee was baptized on 10. Feb. 1762 at Presbyterian Church, Fort Plain, Albany County, New York; at the time of his birth the Church was known as 'The Reformed Calvinst Church of Canajohary.' He David fought in Captain Joseph Dygert's Seventh Company of the New York State Militia in the Mohawk Valley, defending the area from Indian and British actions. He fought until the end of the war in 1784, but did not receive discharge papers. Spring 1777 at Fort Windacher, Danube, Herkimer County, New York. Bt 1776 - 1782 Joseph Mabie, his son, David Maybee, and his son in law, an unknown person were private soldiers in Captain Joseph Dygart's First Company of the First (Canajoharie) Regiment of the Tryon County Militia under Colonel Samuel Campbell. He married Gerdraut Freimauer at Cobleskill, Schoharie County, New York. David Maybee and Gerdraut Freimauer resided at at Canajoharie Castle, Montgomery County, New York, in Apr. 1789.
