Subject: [VERMONT] Elihu Scott ? related to Hale, Harris, Carpenter, Winslow, Cook, etc. Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Henry, I have a tattered copy of "Genealogical Record of the descendants of Thomas Scott b 1744...and Sarah Hale" published 1902, edited by C.S. Scott, Phoenix, Arizona.
There is no index. On first glance, I don't see your Elihu SCOTT, b ? 1805/6, but there is an Elijah Scott family. Can you give me related names and dates? It seems too coincidental that my Thomas also married a HALE.
Thomas Scott married Sarah HALE Feb. 16, 1769 at Ashford, Windham County, Conn., according to this published work with little-to-no sources (data from family interviews, records, correspondence). They had 10 children, the first 6 born in Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut:
Clarissa Scott, b 1770, married Joshua HARRIS. They remained in Halifax, VT. Thomas, b 1772, married 1st Ann CARPENTER, 2nd Abigail WINSLOW. Thomas and Abigail are buried in Burke, VT. Abel, b 1774?, married 1st Polly COOK, 2nd Lydia CROZIER. Abel remained on his father's farm and is buried in Halifax. Sally, b 1776, married Samuel CROZIER and remained in Halifax area. Asahel, b 1778, married Elizabeth PECK, born in NH. Moved to East Smithfield, Bradford County, PA.
Joel, b 1779, married 1st Clarissa RISLEY in Manchester, Conn. and returned to Halifax. 2nd Elizabeth HALL, b. Somers, Conn. Joel died on the family farm
1849.
In the summer of 1781, per this booklet, Thomas and Sarah moved to Halifax, Vermont. The farm was six acres received in deed from John Hale at the time of their marriage. [Was John the father-in-law?] John SCOTT witnessed the deed.
The remaining children were born to Thomas and Sarah in Halifax, VT: James, b 1781, married Clarissa SMITH, born in Marlboro, VT. He remained on the farm in Halifax.
Henry, b 1783, married Sarah JONES and later settled in Maine. Elijah, b 1785, married Betsey WOODWARD and settled in Bennington, Vermont. Ruby, b 1788, never married
I'm related via a daughter, Sally, of Thomas the son, and his second wife Abigail WINSLOW.
My Sally SCOTT married Jehiel CASS of Lyman, NH.
Many of the succeeding generations of Scotts and other names migrated to New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and elsewhere through the mid-to-latter part of the 1800s.
Anyone wishing a "look-up" in this volume, I will try to accommodate, if you are patient. E-mail me privately, but I will post responses to the list. Thanks,
Martha Byrnes
