These Scotts from Springfield settled in the Town of Palmer .. then called "Elbows" Excerpt p. 545-6 The Scott Family were early settlers from Springfield. William Jun. was the proprietors surveyor of several years, and was appointed Justice of the Peace in answer to a petition of the citizens " for the reason of the peace in tn answer to a petition of the citizens " for the reason that he wwas a man of very good character and understood law very well." John the eldest son, selected his lot east of Dumphlin Mt., but while visiting his friends in Hadley died there in 1737.
William Sen.[ior], was b. in Springfield Aug. 8, 1676, and d. Dec 31, 1763. William Scott Esq. b. in Springfield, Nov. 22, 1723, d. May 25, 1790, m. Abigail ____.

| These Scotts -listed above -settled Palmer Massachusetts after claims on land were accepted; recognized and the settlers allowed the status of proprietors and their claims granted. This area, Palmer - called "Elbows" is the home of the John Scott of 1736's grant of land to desendants of the fallen of King Philllip's War. This John Scott is grandson of the fallen John Scott - actually William's son; the WIlliam is the son of John Scott - as described in the General Court's final list of claimants. John Scott of Springfield, who died in the King Phillip War 1675-6 is the ancestor of these Scotts .. his descendant grandson John of "Elbows" received a land grant from Massachusetts for the death as his next eligible claimant. |
