Scott Family Lineage of Scott M Connolly

Origins of this lineage are English - believed Henry Scott [Skott] of Rattlesden Suffolk England

With that company of Scotts who landed at Ipswich; then to Connecticut. Possible ancestors -at least two before Henry Scott b. 1701 may be Robert Scott and his son John Scott; or another of Edmund or Edward Scott. It appears that our lead ancestor is Thomas Scott, son of the Henry Skott of Rattlesden Ipswich Suffolk England; by his wife Elizabeth, to Edmund (of Farmington then Waterbury Ct.) to his son Edward with Mary Webster; or via Edmund's son John. Thomas Scott (1)'s son Thomas Scott of Ipswich Ma. & Stamford, Ct. (Thomas's son) is also putative. In any case .. our GGGGG-GF Henry Scott -styled as "of Mansfield" in his son Thomas Scott's Ashford Ct. marriage registration- was also referenecd as the son of a Magistrate John Scott for Mansfield appointed by Gov. Winthrop.

  • John Scott connections also in research for two Massachusetts Bay John Scott Families ...as Maine was a province of Massachusetts, and the colonization point. These 2 John Scott familes are: 1 in Springfield Plantation in 1636+ (which would have to have joined the Scotts in Maine (Kittery,York & Machias-Washington County) & the John Scott in east Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Relations to one 'John Scott' son of James Scott are unknown .. the latter are the Duke of Monmouth and his son -- the James Scott, Duke of Monmouth is son, by mistress, of Charles II -beheaded for a rebellion against Parliament's Succession Choice ...his son continued his line ..eventually devolving to the Duke of Buccleigh. English & Massachusetts lineage in research; some in Connecticut Valley; some Virginia, some MassBay ..cf. James Scott

Other English John Scott descended from 16th-17th century 'Scot' settled in England from Scotland.

Also ..there are Scotts released ..or their contracts as indentured pardoned prisoners [defeated Dunbarre] of the English Civil War in Boston as early as 1652 .. including John Scott. Also, an earlier arrival in 1632. See Scotland for history. These are indentured contracts with first stop and choice to Boston ..otherwise bound for Barbados.
Not yet known whether Maine/NH Durgins and Scotts joined this early ..but a romantic thought as an indentured John Scott whose contract is ought by a William Durgin - a Puritan Calvinist -(or at least tolerated).
Samuel Scott is also mentioned as a merchant in period 1632-52 also bound for Barbados via Boston - but as a merchant passenger.

    • GGG-GF Henry Scott also in Evergreen Cemetery-Portland, Maine has a 1783 birth year also of Maine .. and believed ggggf Eugene A. Scott ..father of GGG-GF Henry M Scott; his son GG-GF Henry M. Scott born 1827 - the year of his father's death; who would live to 1903, and ,of G-GF Charles Henry, (1852-4-1922) who married Mary Durgin (1864-1929). In the same plot with C Henry Scott is their daughter mary Alice Scott (1885-1969) - sister of GM Sarah Elizabeth Scott-Connolly (1883-1971) [mother of Owen F. Connolly]. [Henry Scott in N Yarmouth census in 1820, 1830 & 1840 ..see census]
    • Update -10/22/02 ... Henry Scott married Mary Alice Pegrim [Pingram] .. the Henry Scott/Mary Marriner marriage is not our family's Henry Scott. See Pegrim note here at this site via file tree.
    • Update .. 8/28/02 .... research & revision in progress as needed ... ie Samuel Scott (b 1783 .. lived in Calais, Maine) .. ... Henry Scott (8-9 in Samuel's Calais household in 1850 Census & 1841 born .. father of Charles Henry Scott ... 1853 born >>> & in 1870 census ... or Charles Henry is son of another Charles (brother of Henry by Samuel). Also Henry Scott & Mary Elizabeth Marriner in Brunswick Maine (north of Portland, same County) (m 1852) .. or Henry Scott & Jane Leighton of Old Town (1858) -- but because Chas is born in 1853 ..the Scott-Marriner marriage in nearby Brunswick is likely (another note -- Marriner ancestry also inlcuding brewing - one of the trades of a Portland Chas Scott) ... in Henry's cross transit --return West to Portland area. ...Also Portland census has a Henry & Charles at proper age for Samuel's younger sons from Calais -- and there is a Chas Scott Maine born with a NB life in Calais & Lubec..later a Charles Scott in Portland as a Brewer ... My GGF (and that of my first cousins, brothers & sisters (13 of us) ... was Charles Henry Scott .. born 1853 ..died in Portland, Maine in 1922 ..had two daughters - Sarah (she married Joseph Connolly of Portland, Maine) & Mary Alice Scott (unwed) -- & no sons. They are buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Maine [the Mary Alice Scott of Calais in 1870 was from New Brunswick & married the 'truckman' Charles Scott living in Lubec, & Calais ..][note 10/22/02 -- could have been Charles Henry Scott & Mary Alice in Lubec from Portland]. other item -- Chas Scott's daughter married the son of a Portland teamster .. and a Chas Scott (likely my GGF) was associated with the 'business' address of Bernard Connolly & Bryan Connolly (GGF) .. perhaps his "Down East" businesss came to Portland (truckmen were shippers/wagon haulers/transporters) ..As I check death records for certitide ..this will be updated. Also 'truckmen' moved ..
