- Sarah Scott, my grandmother, was called Nana by us. Raised in Portland, Maine ..she was the daughter of Charles Henry Scott [b.1853] & Mary A. Durgin [b.1864-1929]. Of her immediate family, she and her sister Mary Alice Scott were the only surviving children ..and only she married.
She died in 1971, and was personally known and well remembered as "Nana" by Scott M Connolly; and is buried with her husband and daughter Sarah Connolly in Lexington, Ma.
- Her father died in 1922, her mother in 1929 .. they are buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Maine with Mary Alice Scott (b. 1889) who died in 1968-9.
- Her Uncle Eugene [Edward] Augustus Scott [b.1852] lived to 1937 and is also buried in Portland, Maine at Evergreen.
- In a conversation with grandson Scott M Connolly, about 1967 or before ... she recounted her father and mother's family as Scottish and English. there was also Welsh in her family .. and her third son Owen Francis Connolly .. was named 'Owen' for the Welsh in her family.
- She married Joseph Augustine Connolly in Portland, Maine in 1906. She and he are buried in Lexington, Massachusetts
- Mary Alice Scott who resembles her father, did not marry ... Sarah Elizabeth Scott, resembled her mother the Durgins.
- Scott Michael Connolly (b.1949 & living), her grandson by Owen F. Connolly & Dorothy L. McCormack Connolly bears the name Scott for her family.
- Owen F. Connolly knew his Grandmother Mary Scott-Durgin, and his Uncle Eugene Scott.
- Eugene is an od euro-celtic variant for Edward; and means enriched, well born, or well endowed ..blessed with riches.
- Owen is old euro-celtic for warrior ..ie Ouen ...like St. Ouen
- A further appreciation of Sarah Elizabeth Scott -- "Nana" is here.
