  • This branch of the Pingree family is still in research ... in one record variant the name is spelled Pingram -but likely a mistranscription [Pingrey read as Pingram] .. but is averred as Pegrim [ditto Mary Alice Scott's letter [Pingree as Pegrim] [Mary Alice Scott letter .. Grand-Daughter of Mary Alice Pegrim-Scott].
  • Mary Alice Pingree ['Pegrim' variant] is listed with the Cummings family in the 1850 US Census for Maine. A record of Leonard Cummings death is forthcoming. NB: Leonard Cummings (2) is the 1880 US Census ..married to an ELizabeth Cole .. this is Mary Alice Pingree & Leonard Cummings son.
  • Pingree Pingre Pingrey Pingra --- are all derived from the French name Pingre; and date to French Hugenots and other French immigration in the 17th centuries [or earlier] to the British Isles and North America in the 17th century. Pingrey, is an early colonial name in both 17th century Plymouth & Massachusetts Bay Colonies.
Maine's branch settled chiefly first in the Oxford county area: towns of Norway, Bryants Pond, etc.; usually migrating from Rowley-Ipswich in Massausetts Essex County [North Shore]; and through New Hampshire.
