  • Delia May died March 6, 1897 in Boston, living at Centre Street where the directory notes list Francis May. Her age is stated at 67, but she is 70 by other records. Her father was John Fitzmorris. She has had nine children. since her 1846 marriage. Burial place in reserach, but believed Holyhood. [Earlier information about the bridget in New Bedford, is evidently erroneous]; She immigrated before 1848 to the United States; married Francis May a baker born in Germany in 1823, in Boston; she and great great-grandfather Francis May had 9 children.... [tentative -- nb in another census 1900 ..Caroline May McCormack has given one of her parents as Massachusetts born ... 1 discrepancy-- father alleged Ireland born]
Note .. verification of this bridget May will come with death certificate.

  • Francis May, a baker from Baden Germany, has a shop at the rear of 43 Pleasant Street in 1849-50 Boston. That location is here.
Source: Boston Directory July 1849-July 1850, p.200 , [929.3 Mass. B65Dir]. This was three or four years after he married Adelia Bridget Fitzmorris. By this time he has also become, at his earliest time, an American citizen. He is not immediately related to established Boston Mays ... but he fits in! By present geography .. his old shop site is in Boston at the shunt of Storrow Drive & east of Soldier's Field Road. In fact it almost looks near the Alston Depot where another McCormack-May descendant would have a restaurant before opening one at Quincy Market.
  • By 1867 The Boston Almanac lists under bakers in the Business Directory is [ May F.J. 184 harrison Avenue ... map here] .. [Call# 929.3 Mass B65Baa 1867]
  • The Boston Directory in 1900, p1062 & 1905 p1239 lists Francis J May at 1780 Centre opposite Beech .. and the May Family is in the 1850, 1860 & 1870 Census, in West Roxbury. Francis J. May and Delia May were residing at Centre [sic] Street when she died in 1897.
