- May Family explained here are descendants of Francis Josef (Jon?) May and ancestry from Baden Germany about 1835-40 to Boston, Massachusetts. Settled in West Roxbury, they were part of the Boston German community, this family is Roman Catholic descended; census records suggest they farmed in West Roxbury about 1850 or before. Francis, this webmaster's GG-GF, married an Irish-born woman Adelia [Bridget] Fitzmorris. Francis became a baker in West Roxbury, Boston, Dorchester to present day Brookline. His family may have belonged to the Holy Trinity Church on Washington Street .. the primary German ethnic Roman Catholic Church in Boston .. still a parish [styled national parish] conserving German culture in Boston. (Famous for helping to popularize the American-German Christmas tree custom).
