MacMullan Family

MacMullan .. also MacMullen, and MacMillan .. are Scottish ancestried from Western Scotland and the isles. The name means those with the sign of the Bishop .. dating to the tonsure, like old Judaic priesthoods in late Roman & Post-Roman Judeo Christian Europe. It is a separate family from the "O'Mullin" of Ireland. It also joins the descent from Cormac, the Bishop-King of the old Alban Angle-Celt kingdom of Western Scotland, the Isles (Hebrides) and nothern Ireland. Cormac, 4th-5th Centuries, was in the style of Constantine, ordained with the full orders of the Roman Catholic Church, as king in the fashion of Constantine, and was married .. like Orthodox Bishops and Priests. The practice of holding priestly rank and bishop status was ordinary among ruling figures in early Christian Europe. In ths ancestry via Carmac, maintained and stewarded by Buchanans (the name means censor) the 'holy' or 'royal' line was sustained from Carmac; joining McCormac, and MacDonald; and is the source, after Niall, of the ancient kings of Scotland -- MacBeths, David, Malcolm, etc. Later Buchanan like families as 'steward's of the line and kingdom, became the Stewart lineage of Scotland. A link for an on-line history of MacDonalds and Cormac appears elsewhere on this site ia Island Register

Our MacMullen/MacMullan branch appears in both McCormack and MacNeil marriages via PEI and older Scottish marriages which joined most Western Scottish & Highland families. John Macneil's father Great-Great-Great-Grandfather Murdock MacNeil married Anne MacMullen in PEI ... and Donald McCormack's wife was another Margaret Anne MacMullan. [information derived from death record for John MacNeil & others].
