|Colonel Hobart of Abington, Ma came up to Maine in 1786 and bought a Township to settle a plantation of settlers and named it Columbia (now near Columbia Falls Maine in washington County) ... in the census excerpt below the township purchased - Number 10 - Another founded township is named Edmunds after his ancestor Edmund Hobart.|
Some of the settlers already there -descended from the economic loyalists of Massachusetts: including Samuel Scott of Machias and his son Samuel Scott Jr. In the 1790 census Samuel Scott Jr has 4 sons under 16
Our ancestor GGG-GF Henry Scott who came to live at North Yarmouth with the grandchildren of Col Aaron Hobrt via Dr. David Jones is not of these Samuel Scott Jr. Scotts - but from Vermont by a Connecticut & Massachusetts Scott Family. He married Col Aaron Hobart's grand-daughter Sarah Jones. By coincidence, she is remembered as the namesake for a cousin Sarah Jones Hobart, of these towns [mainly Edmunds].
