Family Tree.. A Partial Narrative --Scott M Connolly

Scott M Connolly .. dob 1949 ... Waltham, Mass, USA m.1977 Diane Ruth Skinner-Certa 1951, Norristown,Pa USA ...div Rockville, Md 1985 .. no issue

There is no Michael Scott, nor Michael Scott Connolly in this family lineage

Father- Owen F. Connolly (USA 1921-1996) m.1947 (Lexington, Ma) Dorothy McCormack (USA 1924)

--- Owen F. Connolly was a US Air Force officer -entering the service in 1942-graduated Air Cadets -Marfia Texas, pilot & airborne engineer, then training & medical service corps.
One assignment for 5 years in Montgomery, Al. Gunter AFB crossed his path with worldwide US allies in aviation medicine - as he trained pilots and their trainers for the jet age. While at Gunter AFB - he and his family experienced the segregated South and the "Montgomery Bus Boycott'.
White caucasians from the North -Yankees- they supported the integration - but Owen was 'Hatch Act' barred & the family lived on base.
SCOTTMCON (Scott M Connolly) attended segregated 'Capitol Heights Elementary' School in Montgomery, Ala. through 3rd grade. --- Owen would unfortutously have 'tetes-a-tete' with "Kissing Jim Folsum" -who would stop and sit in his limousine (Cadillac) at the Connolly quarters - last in a string befoe the road to the airstrip at Gunter where the Governor kept hs plane.
SCOTTMCON accompanied his mother Dorothy on a bus boycott induced ride to Montgomery's black sections to bring home Katherine - the young woman who helped her with house & children (we called her Caspar).

SCOTTMCON remember's Alabama's integration only in seeing penal road work - chain gangs - & sugar cane fields ... and in the orphanage of Father Caswell outside Montgomery. Segregation produced racially governed off-base movie theaters (went to 2 movies -'Moby DIck' & "Old Man & the Sea') .. and 'white' department stores. Dorothy & Owen raised their children 'irracially' with a teaching of uman equality. Owen also served elsewhere in the South in Greenville, SC; and Fort Bragg, NC. ... and as a military officer implemented President Truman's armed forces desegration order -1947-48. In another related pre-civilian move, Dad's style ... Owen F., a chain-smoker of cigarettes quit cold-turkey in 1959-60? after the mlitary surgeon-general's report of cigarette-smoking & lung cancer.

In WWII Owen flew in the South Pacific: Fiji, Carolnes, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Phillipines ..and was a "Macarthurite" ..General McArthur was his 'Gereral' .. and he flew airborne & logistics missions - mainly into bush strips with C-47's; - wanted a figher pilot assigmnet -but he got a Colt 45. (When Dorothy & Owen divorced his pilot's bragging 'short snorter' was given away by his wife - (a 'short snorter' is made of currencies & scrip from the currency of every place a pilot lands). [McArthur's father came from the Westover AFB-Chcopee, Mass area .. and connects to PEI & US Scots-Irish McArthurs].

One of his sons Walter Keefe and married Cecilia Majr .. and settled on Cape Ann ...Wreck of the Hesperus Circle, in Magnolia. ...The dropped 'O' evidently was the family styling from PEI although, many of Anne McCormack's school books have "O'KEEFE". [a mac or mc like problem then dropped.]

Wreck of the Hesperus by Longfellow

And fast through the midnight dark and drear, Through the whistling sleet and snow,
Like a sheeted ghost, the vessel swept
Tow'rds the reef of Norman's Woe.

John MacNeil's family are from MacNeils of Barra, in the Outer Hebrides, who emigrated with others about 1770 to Prince Edward Island; including MacEacherns .. possibly jing a party from Inverness with other Hghlanders. (

Francis J May (b.1825 Baden, Germany d.1915 Boston) m.1848 Bridgit Fitzmorris (Ireland) their daughter Caroline is my great-grandmother, borne 1851 Brookline, Ma USA (both emigrated to Boston 1840-5? she from Ireland via the Isle of Man (UK) to Liverpool then Boston or New York). GreatGreat Grandfather May's arrival in the USA is still being researched; and he may have arrived as early as 1841 via New York or direct to Boston. His future wife, future son-in-law, and his family lived in West Roxbury which would become Brookline after 1861, and part of Boston as Mattapan - Jamaica - Hyde Park.

Charles Alexander McCormack the son of Daniel F McCormack is my maternal grandfather; and he served in WWI in the locally famous YD [Yankee Division] or Fifth Division .. part of Patton's AEF in France & the low countries ...a 'doughboy' trained at Camp Drum etc. He then worked for New England Telephone & Telegraph ..where he met Anne O'Keefe-MacNeil. He is deceased & was fingerprinted by the army at least. His mother was half-German American. His YD [Big Red Diamond] was the first American force to make a bridgehead against the German Imperial forces across the Meuse River at Dun, France .. and is remembered by a plaque on the bridge there; during Pershing's combined attack knwn as the St Mihiel Salient.
More on the YD coming to ths site here later. Many of his comrades in arms who died lie in the American Cemetery at Montfaucon ... near their French allies at Verdun.

"The feat of arms, however, which marks especially the Division's ability as a fighting unit, was the crossing of the Meuse River and the establishment of a bridgehead on the eastern bank. This operation was one of the most brilliant military feats in the history of the American Army in France" John J. Pershing

Charles McCormack's German Grandfather & grandfather emigrated from Baden Germany in the 1830's (or pre 1848) about 50? miles away.
My maternal grandfather to us was always 'Poppy'.

Editor's Note --Until Scott M Connolly obtains additional materials - Family Bible & Family genealogy records of Great Aunt Mary Alice Scott (last seen 1994 .. in Aunt Alice's wooden secretary - a portable desk - as she kept them ... and likely in family custody) ..these will be rebuilt the hard way. NB- the Scott Family Bible referenced here is 'our Scott Family Bible with Durgins' ... not that of John Scott of Maine- who married a Mayflower descendant. We relate to that John Scott.

Scott M Connolly's great-grandfather Scott's name is correct as stated -Charles H. Scott, b.1854 -- a great Uncle by that name had been mentioned. For tracing by other factors-Great Grandfather resembled a Woordrow Wilson sort. Only had two daughters - one married my grandfather; the second Mary Alice was unwed. His father and mother -Henry Scott and Anne Pingram were also Maine borne.

O'Neills & MacNeils??? ...Owen Connolly married Dorothy McCormack [my parents] and kept pet names of 'Onie' & 'Nilo' for each other. Mother was part MacNeil ... and father was Connolly branch with northern O'Neill Clan (near Lietrim).
