    Subject: Re: Feeney & Durgin
There's a Feeney in every Irish family in Portland, I swear.
Owen Durgin born 1820 England married Margaret Feeney, no birth info, in Portland, on 24 March 1856

. Daughter Margaret A. Durgin born aabt 1870 Portland, she married John J. Milan of Gorham on 5 Nov 1892 in Portland, Owen's wife is not Margaret in the 1880 census (Margaret IS in 1870 census)
    - his 1880 census wife is Anna B. no-last-name, born 1820 in Maine, and they have a son Owen Jr. born 1863 in Maine. Are these two different Owen Durgins, or was he married twice? Is Owen a son by first wife Margaret? I would guess he is a son by Margaret.
There is also an Anna Durgin, 16, domestic from Ireland, in the 1870 Westbrook census.
Please tell me all about this other daughter of Owen, as you talk to Bradford, please.... Can you give him my email address and pass along what I have just given you on Owen Durgin?
    Thanks,
    Margaret

Scott, checked out your web site very nice! I received the e-mail from Margaret LaCombe however, I didn't find her e-mail address. I understand the situation with the names. On my mothers side Martineau all the girls were Mary and the boys Joseph and the only way to tell them apart was by middle name. It seems there is some confusion on Owen and Mary A. I do know Owen J. Durgin, Jr. born 1863 married Mary A. Welch thus becoming Mary A. Durgin I don't know? I will forward the E-mail I received that put it all together for me!

    Scott
Thank you for understanding. I don't remember if I told you, but I did see a Owen Durgin residing in Westbrook, Maine in the 1870 census.
Pg 504 of 1870 Westbrook Maine Census
Durgin, Owen age 57, born  in Ireland
    Matthew  age 13
    Mary A. age 12
    Catherine age 9
    Owen age 7
    Marg age 5
    kids all born in Maine
    that's all there was.
The US census was every 10 years starting in 1790. 1790-1840 only lists the name of the head of households. 1850-1870 provides all names within a household, but does not indicate relationships. 1880-present provides all names within a household and relationships, if any.
The 1890 census was damaged in a fire in the National Archives a long time ago. So, there is no census for that year.
I hope that helps you some. If I ever need a look up in MA, I will certainly contact you. Thank you for the offer.
    good luck with your research
