M Alma Durgin is a plausible Mary A Durgin who at 17 here would marry Charles Henry Scott in 1884 in Portland. Most of her family are from New Hampshire ..her father is a widower; Maine born. Mary A Durgin (Mrs. Charles H Scott was born in 1864).
Note M Alma Durgin lives with her widowed father in 1880. M Alma could be a corrupted census tnscription for Mary Amelia Durgin. Seeking mother's name (ie if Mary, also then daughter would use her second name)...

Will leave you at this ...

A Samuel & Mary Durgin are grocers in Deering Maine in 1880 with possible connections to a "Durgin & Small" grocers in Portland Maine Woodsford Street ... where did GGF Chas Scott work when he 'clerked in a store' ?

Did he meet a Durgin young lady? A Mary or an M Alma Durgin?

An M Alma Durgin was born in 1863-4 and is with the 1880 family of B F Durgin (Benjamin Folsom or Franklin Durgin - in Ashby Massachusetts (betewwn NH state line & Lowell, Ma.

Durgins ran strings of Benjamins and a string of Francis

Dad was middle named Francis for whom?

Two (2) Benjamin Durgin households have both Francis (born 1866 by Ameila Edgecomb) & another M Alma's brother is anglicized/americnized to Frank (but he's 1860 born )

The BF Durgin is widowed and runs to ancestry - possible with several other Benjamins, Samuels, & Francis, Johns, & Bradburns to William Durgin. Would be seeking BF Durgin's name.

For a read .. one of William Durgin (New England's # 1 Durgin -1st Ancestor (b England 1648) sons (Samuel Durgin) married a Sylvester-Torrey (Old Puritan New England) ..they (Torrey Family) go back to Combe, Somerset England in year 1500.

Will stay in touch with whatever I find or deduce.

There is also the Roman Catholic matter ..which GGP Scott & Durgin & when?
