The priest in question was Father Michael Caswell --Diocese of Mobile He died December 11, 1971 His organization and center were "Our Lady of Fatima Mission" Mount Meigs, Alabama, in Montgomery County ..northeast of the city on the Atlanta Highway. Evidently the Mission survived until 1972. We (my family met him, and visited his Mission in the late 50's when we lived at Gunter AFB. he was an auxiliary civilian chaplain there. The 50's in Alabama were rough times then .. and he stood out as a caring, white caucasian Roman Catholic priest maintaining an orphanage and farm for poor children ... with his mission staff. Pass this on as you would .. and please remember him. His Mission must have been sustained by him for almost 25 years. His diocese, again, was the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mobile, Alabama Scott Michael Connolly [dob.1949], second son of then Major Owen F. Connolly-USAF, lived with his family at Gunter AfB, outside of Montgomery, Alabama from 1953-1958; most of that time at MO-Quarters 601-A ..last set before thr road to the airstrip and the lagoon & recreation area acoross from the base Gymnasium. The interdenominational base chapel also has exterior poinsiettas year round, though smaller because of Montgomery's climate. Other Montgomery Alabama memories are the : bus boycott, 'Kissing Jim Folsom', Martin Lake & Kowliga recounted in the narrative family history at ths site. |
