Bryan Connolly

Bryan Connolly was born in Lietrim County, Ireland in 1844 .. and emigrated to the United States during the Civil War .. working as a laborer in one account from the Portland Business Directory, he later practiced his trade as a teamster in Portland, also for the City of Portland. My father Owen F. Connolly remembered him, and said that one of is grandfathers was from Lietrim, and worked for the City of Portland, Maine. After naturalizaton in 1876 citizenship made city employment, civil service empoyment, possible .. usually reserved for citizens in any country.
He married Winifred McGowan of Lietrim Ireland, whose family also settled in Portland, Maine.

Other notes show a Bryan Connolly, entering Boston from New Brunswick -- possibly seeking work .. and at least one of his children was born in Massachusetts - possibly Taunton; ... He is listed in the 1880 Portland, Maine census

[note - Bryan Connolly, also spelled as Bryan Conley, and he may have entered the USA more than once .. 1863 was his formal entry date for emigration, or citizenship determination purposes.
