America's oldest Connolly immigrant appears in James Oglethorpe's Georgia Colony late 17th to early 18th century. Connolly was pre-dominantly established as an old name in Monaghan County, Connaught Province in Ireland. Our branch lived in Lietrim, the county nearer the sea, and is affiliated with French family related to Connollys in the Valle de Seine and Paris; and the name Conley, as my great-grandfather spelled it at times, is joined to McCondley and similar in Scotland. Connolly's are affiliated with the Ui Maine (northern County Maine) O'Neills of Ireland ... Owen F. Connolly married Dorothy L. McCormack .. joining a Scottish MacNeil ancestry with an Irish partial O'Neil ancestry or affiliation. My parents pet names for themselves were "Nilo" & "Onie". Lietrim Connollys married Lietrim McGowans in Portland, Maine USA ..maybe also in Lietrim Ireland? Lietrim here
