FIRST GENERATION

 

1.  Isaac Hestand/Hiestand Jr. was born on April 7, 1777.  He died on September 13, 1856 in Columbiana Co. OH.  He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 5; south end.  Most of the Hestand children belonged to the Reading Church of the Brethren, Columbiana Co. Ohio.  It's located on Georgetown Rd. between Homeworth and Georgetown. 

 He was married to Sarah "Sally" Byers/Boyer (daughter of John and Agnes Boyer ).  Sarah "Sally" Byers/Boyer was born in 1784.  She died on June 8, 1835 in Columbiana Co. OH.  She was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 5; south end.  

They  had the following children:

 

            +2                      i.    Abraham Heestand (born on May 22, 1816).

              3                     ii.    Andrew Hestand

             4                    iii.    Catherine Hestand.  She was married to Henry Breward on June 27, 1847. 

             5                    iv.    Susanna Hestand.  She was married to John Shively on May 11, 1826. 

            +6                     v.    Nancy  "Anna" Hestand (born on January 21, 1810).

            +7                    vi.    Sarah "Sally" Hestand (born on October 14, 1813).

            +8                   vii.    John Hestand (born in 1819).

            +9                  viii.    Isaac HeestandIII (born on October 14, 1820).

          +10                    ix.    George Hestand (born on February 14, 1824).

 

 


 SECOND GENERATION

 

2.   Abraham Heestand (Isaac-1) was born on May 22, 1816 in Columbiana Co. OH.  He died on August 24, 1892 in Columbiana Co. OH.  Died of paralysis.   He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 13, north end  

 He was married to Leah Stoffer (daughter of Jacob Stoffer and Christina Keister) on October 21, 1838 in Columbiana Co. OH.  Leah Stoffer  was born on December 11, 1817 in Columbiana Co. OH.  She died on February 1, 1898 in Columbiana Co. OH.  She was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Services in the Reading house, Columbiana Co. OH, by Bro. Aaron Shively, Eld. Stroup and S.B. Stuckey.  Buried Row 13, north end.  Her parents came to Columbiana Co. in 1809.  Leah is listed in the 1860 census as unable to read or write.   

In the 1850 census, Abraham is listed living in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.  His occupation is that of a farmer with property value of $3200.  In the 1860 census he is residing in Knox Twp. with a value of $7000 and personal $1671.  Also in the household; Leah, age 42; Joseph, age 19; Samuel, age 17; Isaac, age 15; and Annie, age 14. 

 Abraham Heestand and Leah Stoffer had the following children:

 

          +11                      i.    Levi Hestand (born in May 1839).

          +12                     ii.    Joseph Hestand (born on August 22, 1840).

          +13                    iii.    Samuel Heestand  (born on January 16, 1842).

            14                    iv.    Isaac S. Heestand was born on October 12, 1843 in Columbiana Co. OH.  He died on November 9, 1862  in the Civil War.

                                            He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  On tombstone; s/o Abraham & Leah; died 9 Nov 1862 ae 19y 1m 28d "The Young Soldier"; Row 6, north end

            15                     v.    Anna Hestand was born in 1845.  Dead by 1898 per her mother's obit.

 

            16                    vi.    Infant Hestand was born on July 10, 1854 in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.  He (or she) died on July 29, 1854 in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.

HEASTAND.--At the home of her son, Bro. Samuel Heastand, Feb. 1, 1898, Sister Leah Heastand, aged 80 years, 1 month and 20 days.  Her husband, Bro. Abraham Heastand, preceded her to the spirit world five years, five months and seven days.  They faithfully served the church for many years, in the deacon's office.  She was the mother of four sons and one daughter.  Three sons are still living.  She retired the evening before her death, as usual.  Next morning she arose at five o'clock, and had almost dressed herself, when suddenly she sank over on the bed.  A granddaughter, occupying the same room, saw it, and called to the family.  All immediately hastened to her bedside, only to find that her spirit had gone.  Services in the Reading house, Columbiana County, Ohio, by Bro. Aaron Shively, Eld. Stroup, and the writer.  S.B. Stuckey.  {Gospel Messenger}

 

 6.  Nancy  "Anna" Hestand (Isaac-1) was born on January 21, 1810.  She died on May 24, 1860.

 She was married to Amos J. Connell (son of James Connell and Elizabeth Myers).  Amos J. Connell  was born on January 13, 1808.  He died in June 1899. 

 

7.  Sarah "Sally" Hestand (Isaac-1) was born on October 14, 1813 in Pennsylvania.  She died on July 19, 1905.   She was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 8, north end  In the 1860 census she is listed as a farmer with a real estate value of $1750 and personal property of $1169.  She is marked as not being able to read or write.  

She was married to Ditrick Hoffman on November 16, 1834.  Ditrick Hoffman was born on January 16, 1812.  He died on January 7, 1837.  He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  On tombstone:  In memory of Ditrick Hoffman:  was born January the 16 A.D. 1812; and died January the 7, 1837; his age was Ye 24, Mo11, Da 22; He was married to Sally hes/tand 2 years ?m when death parted them and her; and left her and tender babe under the Protection of the Almighty God, till the last trumpet will sound.

   Sarah "Sally" Hestand and Ditrick Hoffman had the following children:

 

            19                      i.    Detrich G. Hoffman was born on July 25, 1837.  He died on January 19, 1889.  He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  In th 1860 census he was living with Sarah and  two Weaver children in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.  He is listed as a farmer with a personal property value of $553.  

 She was married to Christian Weaver.  Christian Weaver died on March 9, 1849.  He was born @1798.  He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 5, south end  Sarah "Sally" Hestand and Christian Weaver had the following children:  

             17                      i.    Lucinda Weaver was born in 1844 in Ohio.  In the 1860 census she had attended school within the last year.

            18                     ii.    Isaac Weaver was born in 1847 in Ohio.  In the 1860 census he had attended school within the last year.  

 OBIT:  Weaver, Sister Sarah, departed this life July 19, 1905, aged 91 years, 9 months and 5 days.  She was born in Pennsylvania and moved to the vicinity of Homeworth, Ohio, when but a little girl.  Her maiden name was Heestand and she was first married to Detrick Hoffman.  One son was born to this union.  She later married Christian Weaver.  To this union two children were born, both survive.  Sister Weaver was a faithful member of the Brethren church for over sixty-six years.  Services by Eld.  8.  John Hestand (Isaac-1) was born in 1819 in Ohio.  He died on March 12, 1896.  John is listed in the 1860 census of Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH as a farmer with a property value of $4320 and $600.  John was a railroader.

 He was married to Hanna Fox.  Hanna Fox  was born in 1822 in Ohio.  

John Hestand and Hanna Fox had the following children:

 

            20                      i.    David Hestand was born in 1845.

          +21                     ii.    Isaac S. Heastand (born in 1849).

            22                    iii.    Frank Hestand was born in 1852.

            23                    iv.    Henrietta Hestand was born in 1855.

 

9.  Isaac Heestand III (Isaac-1) was born on October 14, 1820 in Ohio.  He died on January 9, 1899.  He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 6, north end  In the 1860 census of Knox Twp (N. Georgetown Post Office) Columbiana Co. OH, Isaac is listed as a farmer with property values of $3000 and $700.  He is still in Knox Twp in 1880.

 He was married to Mary,Maria Kagg/Kagey on February 2, 1843.  She was born on July 26, 1816 in Virginia.  She died on May 7, 1890.  She was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 6, north end  

They  had the following children:

 

            24                      i.    Rachel Heestand was born in 1844.

            25                     ii.    Sarah Heestand was born in 1847.

            26                    iii.    Annie Heestand was born in 1851.

            27                    iv.    Mary Heestand was born in 1853 in Ohio.  In 1880 she is living with her parents in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.

            28                     v.    Levi Heestand was born in 1855 in Ohio.  In 1880 he is living with his parents in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH and listed as a farm hand.

 

10.  George Hestand (Isaac-1)  was born on February 14, 1824.  He died on February 25, 1903.

 He was married to Caroline King on February 6, 1848.  Caroline King was born on May 23, 1823.  She died on November 18, 1848.  She was buried in Sanor Cemetery, West Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.

 


 THIRD GENERATION

 

11.   Levi Hestand (Abraham-2, Isaac-1) was born in May 1839 in Ohio.  He died in 1913 in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.  In 1860 Levi and wife are living at the residence of Nancy Lower, age 53 in Knox Twp. (Sandy Post Office) Columbiana Co. OH.  He is listed as a farmer with property values of $1300 and $325.  Nancy Lower is listed as age 53; farming, born in Ohio with property value of $1700 and personal of $75.  Also residing in the household were John B. Lower, age 17; Albert Lower, age 15; Leander L., age 11; and Rachel S. Diehl, age 3.

 He was married to Catharine J. Lower in 1859.  Catharine J. Lower was born in 1841.

 

12.  Joseph Hestand (Abraham-2, Isaac-1) was born on August 22, 1840.  He died on March 17, 1930.

 He was married to Elizabeth Bushman.

 

 13.  Samuel Heestand (Abraham-2, Isaac-1) was born on January 16, 1842 in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.  He died on September 14, 1933 in Knox Twp. Columbiana Co. OH.  He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 13, north end

 He was married to Clementine Summer.  Clementine Summer was born on August 8, 1851.  She died in 1915.  She was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 13, north end.  

Samuel Heestand and Clementine Summer had the following children:

 

            29                      i.    Leander Heestand was born on October 29, 1873.

            30                     ii.    Leanora Heestand was born on January 30, 1876.

            31                    iii.    James E. Heestand was born on May 28, 1878.  He died on September 9, 1902.  He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Columbiana Co. OH.  Row 13, north end:  Tombstone; husband "Dying is but going home"

            32                   iv.    Hiram R. Heestand was born on March 26, 1880.

 

21.  Isaac S. Heastand (John-2, Isaac-1)  was born in 1849.  He died on May 19, 1921.

 He was married to Lydia A. Gross on March 20, 1873.  Lydia A. Gross was born on May 14, 1856.  She died on February 3, 1922.  

Isaac S. Heastand and Lydia A. Gross had the following child:

 

             33                      i.    Laurence Heestand  (born on November 24, 1880).
