| Dear Cousin, Your letter awaited me upon my return from a visit with my husband's relatives in St. Louis. My husband died Jan. 4, 1964. Yes, I am a Connell. My grandmother, born Aug. 5, 1842, Mrs. Elizabeth Connell, a sister of (I believe) Amos, Isaac, David Benjamin, Sarah Connell also Annie (children of Amos Sr.)? My grandmother married George W. Helwig. They had three chilldren, (1.) Elson, born Dec. 25, 1864, died about 1934. (2.) Llewellyn (my father) born March 11, 1867, died Dec. 2, 1930. (3.) Lorena born July 23, 1875, died Feb. 1955 (never married) I am Also a Bowman. The Connells and Bowmans were NOT related but were such good friends that the Connells included them in their reunions. My father, Llewellyn Helwig married Grace Bowman Dec. 25, 1892. Her parents, Thomas and Eliza Bowman had the Connell reunion at their home near Pierceton, Indiana twice. My parents had the reunion at least once. I was secretary for the reunion at one time. Charity Bowman who married Joseph Connell was my grandfather Thomas' sister. Charity was my great aunt on my mother's side and Joseph was my great uncle on my father's side so I was doubly related to their children (Levi, William, Henrietta are the ones I know). My grandmother Elizabeth Connell Helwig died Feb. 25, 1876 of Scarlet Fever, leaving the three children, 11, 9 & 2. Elson the oldest was sent to So. Whitley to live with his Aunt Annie Connell Warner. My father went to a little town near Alliance, Ohio (Homeworth), where the family had lived to stay with his Uncle Amos Connell & Aunt Zettie. George Helwig, my grandfather, remarried and they kept my Aunt Lorena. Evidently your great, great grandfather Amos Connell was my great grandfather. If I am correct this Amos lived with his son Amos (where my father lived) and died at age 96. I saw him once when I was 4 years old. That would make him born about 1802. Am I correct? I remember your grandmother and grandfather (Levi & Elizabeth) and also saw your mother Edith several times. I believe she was a school teacher as was I. I have many happy memories of the Connell reunions and have several group pictures - some taken at Uncle Isaac Connells country home just south of my grandparents (Bowmans) farm home. I have a brother Dr. ELson B. Helwig a pathologist in Alexandria Va. A sister Elizabeth died at age 7 in 1907. I hope I have given you some of the information you desired. Some of it may not be correct but this is the way I remember it. If I can help you further don't hesitate to write to me. I also know the names of Amos Connell Jr. children (with whom my father lived from age 9 until he went to Indiana (about 1889), Hampton, Elizabeth, Carrie and Lawrence.
