This Deed, made and entered into the 16 Day of October in the year of
1899,
between Thomas DeHart and Mary A. DeHart his wife of the first part
and
Demaris E. Harriss of the second part all of the County of Patrick
and State
of Virginia, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of
Five
Dollars ($5.00/100) in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
and the love and affection I the said Thomas DeHart have for Demaris
E.
Butnett now Demaris E. Harriss a girl I raised and seem it no more
than my
duty for her goodness and obedience toward me to make her the following
described gift, the said Thomas DeHart and Mary A. DeHart his wife
do grant
unto the said Demaris E. Harriss all of a certain tract or parcel of
land
lying on the waters of Dan River in Patrick County Virginia containing
26
acres and bounded as follows: Beginning at a set stone in Mrs.
Spangler's
line corner to J.D. Blackards land one poll west of a pine, thence
N 71 1/4 E
38 poles to a set stone N 20 1/4 W 97 poles to white oak S 58 W 29
poles to a
white oak at the forks of a road, thence nearly with an old road and
the
Quakerfied branch S 7 W 6 poles to a bend S 26 W 25 poles to a bend
near a
marked white oak S 9 1/4 E 22 poles to a bend S 28 E 9 poles to a bend
S 60 E
14 poles to a bend S 26 E 15 poles to a small branch S 32 1/2 E 4 poles
to
the beginning. It is covenanted and agreed between the parties
that the said
parties of the first part shall have such timber as they may need for
fence
and other repairs about the farm the said Thomas DeHart and Mary A.
DeHart
his wife warrant generally the right and title to said land, Witness

A little history of the above referenced:
Daniel Harris and Nancy Trent were married 23 October 1829 in
Patrick Co.
Va. Their son John W. Harris married twice, his first marriage
to ?? was
before 1869 and they had a son John Wilton Harris born 27 March 1869.
This
John Wilton married 28 Dec 1894 Demarus Burnett. John Wilton
Harris,
according to his tombstone at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery,
died in
Cushing Oklahome Jan 10, 1910. John and Demaris had the following
known
children: Mary E.; Thomas R.; Clarence A.; Loy C. Loy Cambden
Harris was
born 10 July 1901 and married Lois Barnard. The following will

VIRGINIA: In the Clerk's office of the Circuit Court of the County

Patrick on June 7, 1946. This day a paper writing purporting
to be the last
will and testament of Mrs. Damaris E. Harris, late of the County of
Patrick,
who departed this life on June 3, 1946, at her late residence at Meadows
of
Dan, Va., was presented in office by Loy C. Harris, one of the beneficiaries,
and was duly proven by the respective oaths of M.E. Thompson and J.S.
Taylor,
who depose on oath and say that they are familiar with the handwriting
of the
said decedent and personally know that the said writing is made and
signed by
the hand of the said decedent, Mrs. Damaris E. Harris, and no other.
Therefore, it is ordered that the said writing be admitted to probate

the County of Patrick and State of Virginia.
Witnesseth that whereas on the 17th day of March 1888 the Said Elizabeth
Harriss in consideration of her care and maintenance during the remainder
of
her life conveyed to the Said Daniel Smith part of her personal property
and
all of her real estate towit:
1 tract of land in Patrick County containing 90 acres also another
tract of
60 acres or her interest in same lying in the County of Floyd as will
appear
from Said deed and whereas the said parties have agreed to cancel the
Said
agreement for the care and maintenance of the Said Elizabeth Harriss
as
aforesaid the Said Daniel Smith and Martha his wife in consideration
of the
said agreement to cancel the Said obligation to care for and maintain
the
Said Elizabeth Harriss doth hereby grant and convey to Said Harris

real estate or interest in the Same as they may have by Virtue of the
deed of
March 17, 1888 and also Such of the Said personal property as agreed
upon and
already delivered to the Said Harriss The parties of the first part

This Deed made this 17th day of February 1862, Between Moses Hylton,

witnesseth that the said Hylton doth lease unto the said Harris &

certain piece of land _____as the Walnut Hollow in the county of Patrick,
upon the head waters of Smith's river, containing seventy acres, being

same more or less to have and to hold during the lifetime of the said
Harris
& wife. They are to have the full privilege of clearing as
much of the land

confirmed
unto Samuel Harris and his heirs certain parcel of land lying in the

of Patrick and the waters of South Mayo now containing one acre more

This Indenture made this 2nd day of August 1834 between William Houchings

the county of Patrick & State of Virginia of the one part and Samuel
Harris
of the same County & State of the other part withnesseth that the

William Houchings for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred
and
twenty dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
hath granted bargained and sold by these presents doth grant bargain
and sell
______enfross and confirm unto the said Samuel Harris one certain tract
or
parcel of land lying and being in the County of Patrick on Sim's fork
of
South Mayo River and bounded as follows to wit: Beginning on
a White Oak
near the mouth of the Ivy Branch thence up the creek as it meanders
to a
Locust thence up a branch to a white oak then to a white oak on a branch
thence a straight line crossing the creek to a Locust thence
to the
beginning also one other small tract containing 2 or 3 acres more or
less,
lying on the north west end of the above named tract being the land
given to
the said Houchings by Samuel Howell, esq, and bounded as follows: Beginning
on a corner white oak above the dwelling house on the bank of the branch,
thence up the hill 20 or 30 setps to pointers thence a straight line
between
said Howell & Houchins now Harris' fences crossing the creek
to a chesnut,
on the redge thence partly up the redge to a red oak, thence to a pine
supposed to be in Howells outside line, thence to a locust named in
the first
described tract with its appertances. To have and to hold the
said tracts of
Land with all and singular the appertances thereunto belonging to the
only
proper use behoof of him the said Samuel Harris and his heirs forever
and the
said William Houchings doth covenent and agree to an with the said
Samuel
Harris and his heirs that he will for himself and his heirs forever
warrant
and defend a good and lawful right to the said tract of land and premises
against the dower or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever.

This Indenture made this 10th day of December in the year of our Lord
one
thousand eight hundred and nineteen Between Marville Bolding of the
County of
Patrick and State of Virginia of the one part and Samuel Harris of
the same
County and State of the other part witness that the said Marville Bolding
for
an in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars money of the
United
States to him in hand paid by the said Samuel Harris at or before the

and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
hath bargained and sold and bef. these present doth grant Bargain and
sell
unto the said Samuel Harris his heirs and assigns for one certain tract
or
parcel of land situated, Lyeing and Being in the county aforesaid containing
one hundred and eight acres more or less and bounded as follows: (to
wit)
Beginning at a black gum at the head of a hollow running by James Clikins
house thence new marked line westwardly crossing the road to a spanish
oak,
thence the new marked line continued state westwardly crossing thru
Branches
to a White Oak in William Fraziers line, thence with sd. Fraziers line
northwardly up a spur of the mountain to a Chesnut on the top, thence
westwardly along the top of the mountain and with sd. Fraziers line
to
another Chesnut at the head of a brahcn, Fraziers lived on, then north
eastwardly to a chesnut oak thence north easwardly and down ____ to
a
Sycamore a branch thence southeastwardly crossing two Branches to a
Chesnut
tree ( ) thence nearly north to a chesnut in
Folley old line thence an
eastwardly course along a new marked line to two or three corner chesnuts
thence abouth easterly course ____ a new marked line to a white oak
in a
branch near the forks of a road thence down the branch as it meanders
to a
long white oak in Lewis Hancocks line thence south easterly on said
Hancock
line crossing a branch to the Beginning. With all woods, ways,
water and
water courses, fences, trees, orchards, house and all other
_______appertaining or in any wise belonging thereunto to have and
to hold
the _____ to have the said Samuel Harris his heirs and assigns forever
against me my heirs and all and any other person or persons either
in law or
quity receiving claiming or having any just right title or witness
in the

The commonwealth of Virginia to Jesse Corn & Adam Turner Justices
of the
peace for the County of Patrick whereas Marville Boulding by his certain
Indenture of Bargain latly conveyed to Samuel Harris one hundred and
eighty
acres of land lying in the County of Patrick on the waters of Sycamore
and
whereas the said Marville Boulding's wife Sally Boulding cannot conveniently
travel to our County Court of Patrick to make her acknowledgement of
the said
conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you
power to
receive the acknowledgement which the said Sally Boulding shall be
willing to
make before you of the conveyance aforesaid contained in the said Indenture
which is hereto annexed and we do therefore comand you that you do
personally
go to the said Sally Boulding and receive her acknowledgement of the
said
Conveyance and examine her privily and apart from the said Marville
Boulding
her husband whether she doth the same freely & voluntarily without
his
persuasion or threats and whether she be willing that the same should
be
recorded in our said Court of Patrick, and when you have received her
acknowledgement and examined her as aforesaid that you ___________
& openly
certify us thereof in our said court under your seals sending these

In obedience to the above Commission to us directed
we have personally
waited on the above Sally Boulding wife of the above named Marville
Boulding
and examined her privily and apart from the said M. Boulding her husband
and
she the said Sally Boulding acknowledged the indenture hereto annexed
to be
her act and deed, and declared that she did the same freely and voluntarily
without the persuasion or threats of her said husband and also relinquished
her right of dower in the land and premises above mentioned conveyed
by the
said deed and is will that the _______with this her acknowledgement
should be
recorded in the said Court of Patrick -- We the subscribers having
previously
read the said deed and explained the purport thereof to the said Sally
Boulding. Given under our hands & seals this 14 day of Aug
