1. JOSEPH ARCHIBALD (HARRISS)2 HARRIS was born January 23,
1793 in Warren Co. North Carolina,

Tax List: - In 1839 Lee County, Virginia, an E. and J. Pennington were
mentioned as having sold 55 acres
both sides Blue S--- to Joseph. Where is the Blue S--- in Lee County,
Va.?
I am also interested in learning who these Harris's were:
1840 Lee County, Virginia land tax list mentions Joseph K. Harris.
1841 Lee County, Virginia land tax list mentions Joseph R. Harris.
1850 Lee County, Virginia land tax list mentions James H. Harris
There was also a Willis K(irk?) Harris b. 1809 in Lee Co. who may be son
of James St. John Harris. Is
there a connection here with Joseph and Nancy? or my
Jesse R. Harris?
Joseph was 55 and a carpenter. Value of his property was $500.00-
wife Nancy (Harris?) 50. About 1856
they moved to Carter co., Kentucky.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Marriage #100-01=111 Bondsman was Anthoney Dowtin.
Joseph and Nancy and the family moved from Warren Co. N.C. where Joseph
was born (Warren Co. by that
time had become Stokes Co.) After the 4th child, Willis was
born they moved to Lee Co., Virginia where the
1831 tax list shows him.
After Willis was born in 1825, Joseph and Nancy went to Lee County, Virginia.
Joseph and Nancy with their
first four boys left Warren County, where they lived It later become
Stokes Co. North Carolina. Joseph
couldn't make a living and went to Lee County, Virginia. Joseph
was a carpenter and was suppose to be
one of the best. In the 1850 Census in Lee county, Va (509-607) shows
Joseph Harris 55, carpenter value of
property $500.00 born in N. C. Nancy Harris, wife, 50 born in N.
C. Joseph 15 son born in Va, Henderson A.
son, 13, born in Va.
Mary J. Childs daughter, age 10 born in Va. They lived in Lee
County, Virginia for 20 years. where they
farmed. Joseph had 55 acres there and later 2 horses Then they
moved to Carter County, Kentucky about
1856 ,all except Nelson and Mary Child. Mary was married by this
time married. (This is the only place I have
seen Mary Child mentioned.)

My Jesse R. Harris was born in Lee Co., Va. At least 4 people
have sent me the information that Jesse is a
son of Joseph and Nancy however his birth is in Lee Co.,Va. and the brothers
just older and just younger than
Jesse were born in Warren Co., N.C. therefore, how could Jesse fit into
this family? I believe he is a nephew
rather than a son of Joseph and Nancy. I would very much like to
find his parents. Children of Jesse R. Harris
and Sarah Salyer b.1832 in Floyd Co., Ky, daughter of Fielding Salyer
b. and Margaret (Peggy) Hale were:
1. Willis R. Harris,
2. Jane - married Jack Melear
3. James Alexander Harris - my ggrandfather who married Alice Belle Wallace.
He died DeKalb, Camanche
Co., Texas. Second wife Margaret (Maggie)Slider.
4. Emily - married Robert T. Tackett
5. William F. - married Mary Jane Prater.
6.Fielden Salyer - married Edna E. Williamson
7.John P.
8. Lydia Margaret - married James Anderson Kiser
9. Nancy - died in infancy.
All children were born in St. Paul, Madison Co., Ark. to my knowledge.
After the births of the children Sarah
and Jesse went on with her family to Camanche Co., Texas.
Jesse married Sarah Salyer in Floyd Co, Ky. - April 1848 in Floyd,
Co., Ky.

A John Early Harris, son of Joseph Egerton. and Sally (Bobbitt) Harris
may be connected to this family. John
and wife were married on May 16, 1792 in Warren co., NC so this was possibly
an uncle. Information from
"Essex England to the Sunny Southern U.S.A. - A Harris Family Journey"
written by Robert E. Harris in
1994. Joseph and Nancy may have been cousins. She may have been Nancy
Long of Warren Co., NC.
Parents would have been Nelson and Nancy (Long) of Warren
Co., NC. and were married on January 20, 1820. Children of JOSEPH
HARRIS and NANCY (HARRIS) are:
i. JAMES A. (JIM)3 HARRIS, b. November 30, 1820, Warren County, North
Carolina; d. June 10, 1896,
Carter County, Kentucky. Buried in Pleasant valley cemetery, Carter
co.;
ii. NELSON P. HARRIS, b. August 17, 1822, Warren County., North Carolina

? iii. JESSE R. HARRIS, b. June 07, 1824, Lee County, Virginia; d.
September 09, 1908, Comanche Co.,
TX, Buried in Zion Hill Cemetery. Van Dyke, Texas. I have received
this from several sources but Jesse
doesn’t seem to fit in this family.
Can you help me find his parents in Lee County, Va. Any
