Bucholz, John W. Merrill, Michigan Passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Age 82 years. The son of the late Charles and Catherine Jeanette (Metzley) Bucholz was born January 30, 1926, in Brant, Michigan. He was raised in a modest manner during the Great Depression. He was an excellent baseball player and fan of all sports, a fantastic dancer, had a great vocal range, loved to travel, engage others in conversation, an avid reader, crossword puzzle worker and many other hobbies. John served our country in the U.S. Navy from February 1943 to February 1946. Much of the time in the Pacific Theatre aboard the U. S.S. Nashville, General MacArthurs flagship, which came under attack, December 13, 1944 wherein John was wounded. He received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. John retired from Dow Corning Corp. after 33 years of service.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years, Margaret Irene, daughters, Yvonne Bucholz Frost, both of Merrill; Jacqueline and Brad Rohde, Saginaw; his grandchildren, Nicole Royal, Hemlock; David and Brenda Siler, Tecumseh; Thomas and Jennifer Siler, Christopher Frost (Whitney Hartin); Patrick Frost, all of Virginia; Sean Frost, Merrill; Brett Siler, Saginaw; Nathan Rohde (Lindsay Franson), Ann Arbor; Patricia Frost (Nick Guzinski), Marion Springs; eleven great grandchildren, Katy, Ashley, Candace, Sara, Alissa, Racquel, Andrew, Hayley, Alexandria, Joshua and Aaiden; two sisters, Evelyn Watkins, Mason; Dorothy Mitas, St. Charles; a multitude of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and dear old friends.
Eleven brothers and sisters, Ed, Roy, Ike, Carl and Earl Bucholz, Goldie and Myrtle Hammond, Leona Mau, Margie Meyer Wudel, Mildred Griffith, Mary Lewis Miller have predeceased him.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Merrill. Rev. Richard Jozwiak will officiate. Friends may call at the Church from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral liturgy. His ashes will be interred at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post # 7302.
