Introduction

---- WELCOME TO THE GEORGE SUTTON DESCENDANTS PAGE ----

In 1634 George Sutton came to Massachusetts on the ship "Hercules" from Sandwich, Kent, England. He was a servant in the party of Nathaniel Tilden of Tenterden, Kent. Within two years of settling at Scituate, he married Sarah, the daughter of Nathaniel Tilden. About 1668, after Plymouth Colony enacted penal laws against the Quakers, George Sutton emigrated to North Carolina with most of his family to escape religious persecution. He died in what is now Perquimans County, North Carolina within a year of leaving Massachusetts.

Two of his sons, Daniel who emigrated to Burlington County, NJ and William who removed to Piscataway, NJ, did not accompany the rest of the family to North Carolina. The majority of people included in this work descend from his son William Sutton of Piscataway.

Research is continuing on this family and these pages will be updated as new information becomes available.
