Nathaniel died March 13, 1799 in Westfield, Essex County, New Jersey at 53 years of age.(307) He was interred March 1799 at Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Section II, Row R, Grave 44 in Westfield, Essex County, New Jersey.(308)
He married Rachel CLARK March 1, 1768 in Westfield, Essex County, New Jersey.(309) Rachel was born circa 1748 in Westfield, Essex County, New Jersey. Rachel was the daughter of David CLARK and Sarah CLARK. Rachel died March 1813 in Westfield, Essex County, New Jersey at 64 years of age. She was interred March 15, 1813 at Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Westfield, Essex County, New Jersey.(310)
Her will (File 10766G) dated 11 January 1810 and proved 15 May 1813 makes the following bequests. To daughter Sarah, wife of Moses Dunham,
a scarlet cloak and 1/2 of wearing apparel. To daughter Abigail, wife of William Pierson, 1/2 of wearing apparel and household furniture
purchased for her at marriage. To son David, $20. To granddaughter Rachel Baker, daughter of Nathaniel, 1 cow plus a bed and bedding. To
granddaughter Phebe Ann Dunham, daughter of Moses and Sarah, a set of bed curtains. Residue of estate to son, Matthias. If Matthias should
die under age and without issue, residue of estate to sons, David and Nathaniel. Funeral records at the Westfield Presbyterian Church
indicated her interment two days after that of her son, Nathaniel.
Nathaniel Baker's will (Lib. 38, Page 233) dated 2 March 1799 and proved 9 April 1799 makes bequests to his wife, Rachel, and to sons
David, Nathaniel, Matthias, and Joshua. Provisions are made for the residue of his estate to be divided between his four sons and daughters
(unnamed), after his wife's death.
In November 1807, his sons, David and Nathaniel, petition the Orphans Court of Essex County for a division of the real estate left by their father. The petition confirms the death of Joshua, the youngest son, identifies Matthias as under twenty one years of age and identifies his daughters as Abigail, Wife of William Pierson, and Sarah, wife of Moses Dunham. The report to the court on the division of real estate was made on 14 January 1808.
