Many researchers who descend from this line, claim that George was the son of Jacob Moreland of Charles Co., MD. There is no proof of this claim. And there are no records of George in Charles Co., MD. He does state on the 1850 census that he was born in Maryland, but that is the only piece of information linking him to Maryland.
Also, George did not name a son "Jacob". Which would be unusual for that time period, if he were the son of Jacob. The first Jacob in this line was born 1825, son of Thomas.
The book "History of Maries County" says that George moved to Missouri from east Tennessee with several of his grown children and that he died at age 102 around the close of the Civil War. But, George was 75 in the 1850 census - so he couldn't be 102 at the end of the Civil War. And, I have not found him in the 1860 census.
Another problem that I notice with this line is Hannah could not be the mother of all of George's children. She must have been a second wife providing the 1810 York Co., SC census is for this George. In this census, Hannah would have been born 1784 - too young to have mothered Elias born 1794. Perhaps George married Hannah ca 1800 and she mothered Thomas born ca 1801. There is a lapse of 6-7 years between the births of Elias and Thomas - which could account for the loss of the first wife and marrying the second wife. In the 1880 census, son William states that his mother was born in GA. But to further confuse the issue, son Andrew states that both his father and mother were born in TN.

Mar. 1808 George Moreland was appointed administrator to the estate of Nathan Blackburn in Wilkes Co., TN.
May 4, 1812 a George Moreland was granted 240 acres in SC.
On June 15, 1818 a George Moreland bought 297 acres in Jefferson Co. which he sold on Feb. 22, 1821. He bought property on Feb. 1, 1825 in McMinn Co., Tennessee and in 1833 assigned his interest in the property to Joseph Smith.
