LOCAL.

We regret to learn that one day last week a drunken soldier belonging to the post at Greenville, entered the house of Isom MALLORY, a worthy and industrious freedman of this place, during Isom’s absence, frightened the female members of the family and finally made off with a couple of watches which he found hanging against the wall of the cabin. The military authorities at Greenville, we understand, have taken steps to ferret out the offender and bring him to punishment.

LOCAL.

A man named CHAPMAN, who resides, so we understand, in the lower part of this county, was thrown from a wagon on Thursday at the Ferry Hill in this place, and seriously injured by one wheel of the wagon.

Another House Burned.
A friend who is conversant with the facts, sends us the following: Three and a half miles N. W. of McKinney on last Sunday.... the dwelling of J. B. MACK was entirely consumed by fire, supposed to have been communicated from the cook stove in an adjoining room. The family were absent; and when first discovered the flames had reached the roof. The loss would have been entire had it not been for the brave and generous efforts o Henry B. SCOTT, who first arrived at the scene...He, with Mr. Robert O’BRIEN and Tee MACK, rushed into the flames, regardless of personal danger, and with the greatest difficulty succeeded in saving the beds, a few articles of furniture, and all the wearing apparel.
We are requested to return the heartfelt thanks of Mr. & Mrs. MACK to their kind and sympathizing neighbors, who on Tuesday last, assembled with wagons, teams and axes, proceeded to East Fork, Honey and Wilson creeks, felled the timber, loaded their wagons and by Wednesday afternoon had erected one of the neatest, most substantial and picturesque looking log houses in N. W. Texas.
