The Fergusons for several generations were linen drapers in Belfast,
Ireland. From that city Warren S. FERGUSON's grandfather crossed the ocean and
settled in New York State. His father Frank H. Ferguson was born in New York in
1838, and when a boy removed to Alton, IL, where the family were old

John FERGUSON, a native of Belfast, came to America with his wife and
children in 1833 settling in Pennsylvania. He went to California during the
Gold Rush and settled in Stockton where he ran a tailoring business which he
conducted until the time of his death in 1896 at age 82. History of San
