Haplogroup R1b is discussed in a Wikipedia article. The Driscoll herein may be in one of two clades under DF13.

What was once called the combo clade is a set of clades which have in common DYS 617 greater than or equal to 13 and DYS406s1 greater than or equal to 11. In the spreadsheet Haplotype Data for R1b-L21 off modal markers are used to define "speculative varieties". That set of clades may be found on the Variety tabs therein as varieties whose label begins with "513". Also in that spreadsheet is a set of varieties characterized by DYS 388 greater than or equal to 13 and DYS406S1 greater than or equal to 11. Their labels begin with "21-314". The Driscoll kits herein could be either variety and thus either DF13>L513 or DF13>DF21>P314.

Kit 21275 best fits the variety 21-314-P13-362 and should therefore test P314 to confirm. Kit 318218 best fits variety 513-C and should test L513 to confirm.

Haplotype Table

A modal haplotype is the set of markers corresponding to the most frequently observed values for each marker. The markers highlighted are said to be off modal with respect to R-L21 and patterns in these markers distinguish one branch or family from another.

Genetic Distance

Genetic distance is a measure of the differences between two haplotypes. In its simplest form one simply counts the number of markers that differ. The model used is known as the Hybrid Mutation Model and conforms to that used by Family Tree DNA.

Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor

The Time To Most Recent Ancestor (TMRCA) is a measure of relatedness and well defined in the case of a family tree wherein one simply counts the number of generations back to the most recent common ancestor shared with someone else in the tree. From differences in haplotypes between two men it is possible to make a rough estimate of the probability that the TMRCA falls between two numbers. The numbers reported in the table below are such that the TMRCA is expected to fall within the range shown with a probability of 90%.
