Driscoll of Cork
Roll Call: Michael O'Driscoll

My grandfather Michael was born to John and Ellen (nee Jones) Driscoll and was baptized at St. Mary’s Church (Roman Catholic) in Schull. He was 6 years old at the time of the Census of Ireland, 1901 which shows 7 siblings; Mary Anne (15 years old), Florence (13), John (10), Nellie (8), Katie (4), Patrick (2) and Jimmie (1 month old).

My grandfather Michael’s father (my great-grandfather) John is listed on the 1901 census as being 44 years old, so he would have likely been born sometime in 1857. My grandfather’s mother Ellen was 35, so she would have been born in 1866, or so. The census also shows my grandfather’s grandfather (my great-great-grandfather) Florence lived with them and was 76 years old, so he would have been born sometime in 1824 or 1825. The household spoke both Irish and English in 1901. Both my great-grandfather John and great-great-grandfather Florence were both also born on Long Island.

The 15th Census of the US in 1930 confirms my grandfather immigrated to the US in 1921 where he married Bridget McGlynn of Letterbric, Donegal, Ireland in NYC in 1928.
