My Great Great Grandfather was John Driscoll born in Cork in 1824-25, educated in the National School there and emigrated to New York sometime before 1853 when his first son was born. His wife was Catharine M. Ryan b. 12 Jul. 1833 on Ireland, died 18 May 1896 in Brooklyn, NY. They had six children, all born in Brooklyn and died I believe, in New York.
My great great grandfather was John Driscoll, b. Jun 1824. He was from Kilbonane, Co. Cork and emigrated to Brooklyn, NY aboard the ship Spring in Aug. 1837 with Johanna 40, Johanna Jr. 17, and James 20. These may have been his mother and siblings, but I'm not sure. Both he and James listed their occupations as tailors. John became a sailmaker in Brooklyn, and then he was the Superintendant of the Kings County Nursery from 1865 to 1875. He married Catharine Ryan, born July 12, 1833 in Ireland and they had at least seven children including John Augustus, (8 Jun 1853 - 18 May 1896, same day as his mother), Thomas F. (1855 -3 Jul 1893), Johanna, (1856 - ), Margaret ) 1858 - ), William J. (1865 - Aug 1918) and George F. (Sept 1871 - 25 Feb. 1941). All the children were born, lived and died in Brooklyn.
John died 3/7/1883 and Catharine 5/18/1896. John had an unmarried sister, Nellie Driscoll, who died in Brooklyn in 1865 at the age of 60.(this age throws doubt on Johanna being their mother.)
