Earliest known ancestor Florence Driscoll (listed in Griffith's Valuations as occupying property at Lahanaght, Drinagh).
Jeremiah Driscoll who was born at Lahanaght (east of Drimoleague) c1850. His father was Florence Driscoll (listed in Griffith's Valuations as occupying property at Lahanaght, Drinagh).
Jeremiah emmigrated to the United States where he met & married Catherine McLaughlin who had emmigrated from Donegal. Their first four children were born in the US (Brookline near Boston) before the family returned to Ireland in 1897. Jeremiah returned to his birthplace to buy a farm at Lahana from Richard Beamish. The Beamish's were the protestant land owners but apparently were very good to the Driscoll family.
At the time of the 1901 census of Ireland there were 5 children. Mary 12, Julia 10, Timothy James 9, Eliza Ellin 5 & Agnes 1. I believe there was a son who must have been born after the census. He was christened John but known as Jack and I believe he ended up in Australia. The family moved to another farm at Madore, Caheragh in 1904.
My great-grandfather Timothy James moved to England and eventually settled in Barnsley.
