Earliest known ancestor
John H. Driscoll born in 1824/25, probably Kilbonane, Co. Cork. (Emigrant savings bank source) and he died in Brooklyn, on Mar. 7, 1883. Arrived in New York Aug. 7, 1837 aboard the ship Spring along with Johanna b. abt. 1797 (mother?) Johanna b. abt. 1819 and James b. abt.1816 (siblings?) Of his possible mother and siblings, I have no trace, but John married Catharine M. Ryan b. abt. 1833 in Ireland after they arrived here, probably in 1852 by the age of their eldest. Catherine immigrated about 1842. All events happened in Brooklyn, NY John, a sail maker by trade, became the Keeper of the Kings County Nursery from 1865-1875. His wife, Catharine was the Matron of the Nursery for a number of years.
From other sources, I found he had two other sisters, Nelly born either 1805 or 1915 died 1865 and Margaret, (abt. 1821 to 1959) m. John W. Austin
John and Catharine had 8 Children:
- John Augustus, 1853-1896 (died on the same day as his mother Catharine)
- Thomas F. 1855-1893
- Johanna Frances 1857-1916
- Margaret Eleanor 1859-1928
- Francis 1861-1862
- Mary Kate 1863-1866
