My Driscoll ancestors:

Father - Alan Trevor Driscoll b 1934 Stepney, London d 1972

Grandfather - Edward Walter Driscoll b 1906 Rotherhithe, London whose father is William Hollingsworth although the family kept the Driscoll name. Edward (Ted) died in 1984.

G Grandmother - Anne, or Annie Driscoll b 1868 Rotherhithe, London, d 1937 Bermondsey

GG Grandfather- John Driscoll b abt 1832, worked at Rineen, Carrigtishane near Skibbereen married Catherine Neill (O'Neil) b 1835 possibly of Kilmacbea, possibly daughter of Owen or James.

John was a Granary Labourer at Rineen. Catherine and John had 6 known children in Rineen. Other than Thomas, who may have been born in Kinsale, 5 are recorded as born in this area and 4 in Rotherhithe, London.

Thomas (1855) Mary (1857), James (1858), Catherine (1860), Johanna (1862) and Ellen (1864) 5 of whom are recorded as Driscoll's of Rineen (Castlehaven and Myross Parish). Then they went on to have Laura, Anne (1868), Bridget and Margaret in Rotherhithe, Surrey.

My maternal family were early settlers to New Zealand and almost completely Irish. O'Rourke, Ryan and Deady (from Clonmel, Tipperary). Cotton, (Lissan, Londonderry), Fahey (Dunally, Galway) and Higgins (Westport, Mayo). A Lindsay GG grandparent was from Scotland and was a headmaster in Oamaru. William Higgins was a fencible who arrived in 1849 in Onehunga, Auckland, NZ. The others were gold miners seeking a new life and fortune in Aoteroa, NZ. All were early settlers to New Zealand between 1840 and 1860.
