- CROOKHAVEN, FEB. 22 – I mentioned in my last report of a
vessel falling into Dunmanus Bay, but whose report I could not give, but which
is as follows:- The Eliza Libby, of and from St. Andrews, 1000 tons register,
laden with timber, was dismasted on the 6th of October, and the men taken out
of her on the 13th, 9 feet water in the hold, by the barque Mary Fisher, of
Scarborough, dropped into the bay on the 19th inst., wind W.S.W., was boarded
by four Crookhaven men, namely, John, Dick and John Driscoll and Charles Meade,
on the same day, and some time afterwards by Henry Baldwin, Esq., C.G. Rock
Island Station, and his men, who took her up to Four-mile-water, and safely
moored her there, where she now lies.
Alexander O Driscoll - DENIS DRISCOLL, of the "Millstream" Crookhaven has already filled 20 barrels of oil taken from the whale found by his boat. It is considered that he can get from 60 to 80 more barrels full from it. An old whaler belonging to the "Mersey" now in Crookhaven says the oil is of the best description. Skull, July 3d, 1848.

- (CE 14/7/1847) – ‘Mr. Mannix M’Carthy waited on the Commissioner to intercede for a debtor, named Cornelius Driscoll, who it appeared, was in prison since February for a debt of £3 7s., and who had not been discharged in consequence of the neglect of the agent already named. The turnkey stated that he was very sick, and in the same wretched situation as the others, who were objects of compassion, if his lordship could do anything for them. The Commisioner replied that he had usually found it the most advantageous mode of conducting business to do one thing at a time. He then gave direction for affording speedy relief in the case of the oppressed and aggrieved man, which had been brought before him through the humane interest of the person who had made the representation.’

- DRISCOLL, JOHN, Sailor, Kinsale, - (CE 18/3/1844) ‘INQUEST – An Inquest was held on Saturday at the Bridewell before Mr. Coroner Jones, on view of the body of John Driscoll, a sailor, who was drowned in the river Lee, near the Custom House. By the evidence it appeared that deceased was a sailor on board the Elizabeth of Baltimore, and was from the town of Kinsale, being about 28 years of age, and married. On the previous evening, Friday, about half past four o clock, the vessel was dropping down the channel, and when opposite the Custom House, the yards having come into contact with the roof of that building, the deceased got into a small boat with another man, for the purpose of fastening a rope to one of the rings fixed in the Quay, and when doing so, the Captain said to deceased, who evidently had taken some drink, that he had no business there, he appeared so stupid and giddy. In a moment afterwards deceased, who then had one leg on the gunwale, fell head-foremost into the river, and did not rise for several minutes; in the mean time the alarm being given a boat was brought to his assistance, but was under such way, that just as the deceased rose to the surface, it went over him and he rose no more. The body was taken up with grappling iron in a comparatively short time, but although medical aid was brought, it availed not – the vital spark had fled. Verdict – Accidental death.’

- (CE 19/5/1845) & (CE 16/5/1845) - Petty Juror: O Driscol, Tim.
- (CE 19/5/1845) Denis and Timothy Cadogan were given in charge for having on, the 18th of April, at Ardagh, assaulted Cornelius Driscoll; and also for an assault on the 26th of March on Richard Condon; and Cornelius Driscoll was placed at the bar charged with an assault on Denis Cadogan on the same day. - This was a quarrel arising out of the disputed boundary between the lands of Turkhead, the property of Sir W. W. Becher, and those of Ardagh, belonging to Mr. Marmion. - The jury found all the parties guilty, and the Court directed the Cadogans to be imprisoned for one month and Driscoll to be imprisoned for two months.
